        1. @aldag71 A Pentium III Gateway. Can't find a model number on it.. Stripping it for parts tomorrow to put into my similarly old Dell.

          2. @eaglehooves love opening up old computers. So much awesome stuff in there. Like floppy drives, processors, phone modems, PSUs that can be repurposed... It is awesome.

            1. @techdisk42 The big score for me was that it's got a 40Gb IDE drive. More than doubles my storage space (but still not enough to use it as a media server for ponies). I've already got a more of the other stuff than I have a use for.

              1. @eaglehooves My laptop has a 740 GB HDD... but I do really want an extremely small rig for use as a home server. I wonder if I can take apart an old laptop, Jerry rig the nonstandard mobo into an old desktop case, add a full sized fan and use that...

                1. @techdisk42 That's what the goal was for the old Dell. Might turn it into a Minecraft server instead, since it doesn't have a ton of space. I've got a friend hosting one now from his computer, and it's not working well (he has a laptop. Connected via wifi *facehoof*).

                  1. @eaglehooves did that exactly for a while. Laptop wifi. What can I say, I have no Ethernet in my house! I stopped running it anyway. I want a rig that I can plug into my modem through ethernet, plug my backup HDD into, and have that HDD shared to the network. Maybe run a miney server on it sometimes. Depends. As long as I can shut it off every night. (I have OCD about leaving computers on)

                    1. @techdisk42 His laptop also has a habitual heat issue...

                      1. @eaglehooves Well, the laptop I was running the server on was ok, but I have named another laptop I have "the furnace" die to its tendancy to heat to obscene temps within 10 mins of a cold boot.

                        1. @techdisk42 He's got some Alienware gaming laptop, and my business-grade one just runs circles around it at so many things. Little know how is as good as throwing a buck ton of money at it.

                    2. @techdisk42 I was talking about a miney server btw. Im too tired to write things right.
