@snowcone I think ponies' popularity (for mane characters) depends on how insane they can become, because Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie have much more noticeable stunted character development but somehow fly past AJ in all the polls.

@snowcone how is she any more or less unique than the others for being a farm gal? Fluttershy is just an under-designed shut-in overly obsessed with animals, BIG SURPRISE FROM A SHUT-IN, and Pinkie Pie is the typical enabler who puts too much stock in social gatherings. I would that Twilight Sparkle is the only unique character in the show, but then again she's a mary sue so there you go

@snowcone I see, so what youre actually doing is discounting all the context of Applejack's character. Because your book worm example is what you're doing to Applejack if you're going that way. Applejack places importance in family to the point of being a part who she is, a fact she recognizes and grows from, and has a stubborn streak that helps her get through things or causes problems (like when she's in a disagreement, she'll stick to her point even if it means making a fool of herself or making the situation worse). She's also probably the most dependable friend of them since she doesn't have any incredible mental disorders like the others do.

@snowcone wait, they haven't "gone into her family?" Every Applebloom episode, the FlimFlam episode, the episode where Granny Smith tells Ponyville history episode, the Apple Family reunion episode all characterize her family and Applejack's interaction with and feelings toward her family.
