  1. tidying up and rearragning stuff can be frustratingly boring, or it can be fun! the latter when you find stuff back (when NOT looking for it) that has been lost for more than 2 years, like my set of 7 2gb microSD, or the official version of Windows 7 I'd bought so I could use it in VMs... (I'd started thinking I had dreamed that) ;-)

    1. @mk or, some of those empty boxes (kept for warranty) turn out to be not empty - now I still have a 'spare' 2.5'' drive enclosure :D

      1. @mk so, now I can test the HD that I bought as one of a pair in Vienna - the other one is rock solid, this one just keeps disconnectng and reconnecting at random times. I suspect that's the controller (of the enclosure it came in) instead of the HD itself (which after a disconnect during writing never once showed a problem when testing with fsck); if it 'behaves' in this spare enclosure I can buy a new one with USB 3.0 for it (the spare is only USB 2.0 since 3.0 did not exist yet when I bought it). Connected to Dennis now, as the 4th of a stack of portable drives :)

        1. @mk so far, not a peep from the HD in the 'spare' enclosure, no resets. I'll give it more time but it seems to confirm my theory that the HD itself is OK, and the problem is/was the controller. #
