  1. copying files via Adele (USB station) goes so well, I almost forget I'm working across the network! # just moving/deleting files on the network drive seems to be a problem - why? #

    1. @mk update: *writing* across the network seems to work fine, too - it's just the deleting part of "moving" that runs into a permissions problem. Maybe I misunderstood something in the Control panel UI of Adele... #

      1. @mk Nothing that I can find... choices are read-only, read/write and deny - it's all set to read/write. But from the web UI file browser I can delete files (but of course then I'm administrator)

      2. @mk when the drive is mounted via samba the fs seems to be completely owned by root - apparently that's the problem for deleting files. but why does it do that? and is the problem with the server, or the (via-gigolo) samba client? #

        1. @mk OK, the problem is NOT Adele server, as I now see that shared folders on Marie are *also* mounted as owned by root:root. so now the questions are: 1) is it samba client (via gogolo) doing this? 2) is this expected behavior? If 2) is 'yes' maybe I need to create a special user in group root just to access these shared folders via samba... #

          1. @mk aha, some searching reveals this seems to be default behavior, and it should theoretically be possible to override that, but I'm not sure I can control that from Adele... http://forums.justlinux.com/showthread.php?117892-Files-created-through-samba-share #

            1. @mk I need to let all this sink in and then experiment a bit, but the referenced thread ^ seems to hold the clues for how to control this. That's a nice exercise for today - but first I have physio, and I need to start getting ready for that! #
