      @mk List updated with some other repos Synaptic had 'remembered', imported two signing keys, and all is well now :)

        @mk ...and sure enough, there is network-manager-gnome, the tray applet for controlling NetworkManagerno longer installed (how come???) - let's try re-installing it! #

          @mk hmm - it's changed quite a bit (not for the better IMO) but it's there (in the menu under 'Settings'); except it no longer appears in the tray :(
