  1. After another many hours long session I finally managed to solve the locale problem on Dennis: Mint has a well-intentioned new way of defining locale settings ('regional' settings) but behind a pretty interface (still not all that intuitive) it's buggy as hell, hides some (most) variables, and fails to set a default. 1. @mk meanwhile Python expects to be able to (internally) set LC_ALL to the default but cannot find the file/directory where this is defined so every program that internally depends on Python fails - invisibly, unless you start it from the command line. It took me ages to find out what was (not) happening, where things are stored, and how to work around all that. But: DONE. (2/2)

      1. @mk in fact, even the 'locale' command itself grumbled it could not find the default until I came up with my workaround. Time to relax now! A Leffe Bruin, I think. !beer
