@toolmanhamm who's ben? I'm watching/reading octavia stuff. I like her, I like the friendshipping between her and Miss Scratch, but I dislike the fan-ownership of Octavia. And same goes for Vinyl Scratch. For example, if I want to write about them, they HAVE to have those names even though they're unofficial fanon names. I like those names anyway, but it's the best example I can give how it's difficult to like something in a fandom when the fans are telling you how you're supposed to view or perceive something.

@toolmanhamm To clarify, I wouldn't mess with the formula myself. But with if there were other interesting interpretations of the characters? But the meme-level of acceptance of their fanon is so deeply rooted that any other interpretation would be cast out. We'll never know because once a couple of the popular, more vocal bronies gets in a word, it spreads like a meme and bam! no room for us.
