    re-familiarizing myself with wth I've been trying to set up on Hal (the NAS) about 8 months ago. :( I *really* need to set it up to automatically make (or receive) backups but configuration is hard because basic config is locked down and restored at boot time. I want Hal as back up for Hedy as well as local (LAN/WLAN) machines.

      @mk I also haven't figured out yet if I can make bash (ash) scripts an execute them via cron (so Hal could *pull* backups); otherwise I think I'll have to script *push* backups to Hal. It does have an rsync server and SSH (the latter apparently not user-configurable). Hard to know where to start... #

        @mk poking around in the Asustor forums, I'm getting some hints this may be possible - no clear instructions though, so I'll need a lot of trial and error. I found some hints for key-based SSH access which would be 'key' for automated backups via rsync # #
