August/September always is an expensive time of the year for me anyway... please poke me if I'm not reporting ordering a RAID box tomorrow!

@mk better avoid blackbox RAID/NAS boxes. I once tried reading disks from a Seagate NAS: out of luck. They use nested LVMs, etc.

@mcscx I'm not looking for a NAS, just a RAID box. I was successful reading from one of the disks from the old one - at least after pulling the data off of it with ddrescue; that was Fantec and I repaired disks before from it pulling out each separately and mounting via separate enclosure. But I'm somewhat suspicious of it because it mangled *both* disks, all at once. I have bad experience with Seagate HDs, so I wouldn't buy any Seagate hardware now. But I'm trying to find something a little "better quality than the Fantec box. Choices are *extremely* limited here, even more now than a few months ago. :( So what is "blackbox" in this context? (Nearly all those boxes are black!)
