i am trying to start a new !gnome group since the lebegue server is down. but the !gnusocial instance on quitter.no wont allow me to use the direct word "gnome". any way to get that fixed?
-
@bastianilso sadly that's a limitation of !gnusocial. A server can't have a user and a group with the same name. So you need to create the group on a server where no user "gnome" exists.

@bes ah ok thanks for the explanation. are names case-sensitive?
-
@bastianilso Think of usernames as the local part of an email adress.
-
@bastianilso But now that you mention it, I'm not entirely sure what the RFC7033 spec for WebFinger says. But I would guess it's along the lines of email, XMPP etc. that the string is normalized (lowercased at least) on comparison.

@bes It was actually not like that in #StatusNet. I'm eager to hear if usernames and groups should have different namespaces. I don't think so, but I'd like to hear an argument otherwise .)
