        1. @hakui @miki @dolus @archzer0 @dwmatiz He's afraid of getting viruses from it. I already explained to him why that doesn't make much sense.

          1. @nerthos @dolus @miki @archzer0 Hi, I am an albanian virus but because of poor technology in my country unfortunately I am not able to harm your computer. Please be so kind to delete one of your important files yourself and then forward me other users. Many thanks for your cooperation! Best regards,Albanian virus

            1. @archzer0 I just sent him "That's dumb. You're more likely to get viruses from facebook or twitter. In gnusocial 1- a lot of people use linux so there's no point in trying to put viruses there 2- there's too few people for it to be effective 3- most people know about computers so you can't easily infect them and 4- most people don't care aout infecting others, they'd rather talk grape

              1. @nerthos Yeah, GS is one of the last places I expect to get a virus of all things.

              2. @nerthos @archzer0 I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

                1. @archzer0 @nerthos @hakui @miki Lucky you. I had to self-learn everything myself with most of my family thinking I was involved in something shady.

                1. @nerthos Well, that's a good thing for certain nodes, but on the whole, I wish GNU Social could attract more warm bodies.

                  1. @dolus It expands mostly though mouth to mouth. Unlike commercial services, there's no advertising or anything, so it's up to us to bring in more people.

                            1. @nerthos Same here. Politics rarely ever comes up in conversation, and Most of the people that spend time at my place are just annoyed that I only use computers they have no idea how to operate.
