If GNU social dies I'm just simply not going to use any social site anymore.
I will become a hermit.-
@zemichi If my own instance is any indication, it won't die, it'll just reduce in scale until it's a few people who are fond of the rest. It'll be smaller, but it'll be there.

@nerthos I think what we're mostly seeing is the drop off of people who just wanted to be in the ingroup while those who remain are going to be those who actually like the software and people here. I can only speak for myself, but I find going onto twitter utterly exhausting emotionally when I do it, because of the sheer volume of noise to signal. It's why I prefer to stay here.

@maiyannah @nerthos I am worried that some of the new people, and I include myself primarily in this, made a safe place hostile for people who were here longer. Not necessarily like, dangerous, but changed the culture
-
@moonman Well safe spaces are something I'm against in the first place but yeah, as maiyannah said, you can just block other instances if you can't put up with it.

@maiyannah Yeah, absolutely. It happened many times in the past here, and it's always the same. Most of the "exiles" drop after a bit, and only a few stay, but those are the ones worth talking to most of the time.

From the users point of few I could say that GNUsocial feels more like a village where everyone know each other while the mainstram social networks are more like a anonymous appartment complex. I like it here because it feels more like the kind of internet I've explored in my youth. I'm sad to hear that it seems to shrink but on the other hand it mybe would loose its charme if it becomes to big. I think it's like GNU/Linux... it's only used by a minority but fits the needs of its users perfectly. I hope this network will have a long future.
