  1. I've been an agnostic since I was like 6, and even before I wasn't a firm believer.

      1. @normandy I only went to one of those three or four times at most. Two for my cousin's communions, and one at school since I did two years in a catholic elementary.

        1. @nerthos @normandy In fact after one of those times at school, when the priest started the service by basically saying "let's all kneel to show how little we are to god", my mother got upset at their practices and never sent me to any again. As a grown man I completely agree with her.

          1. @nerthos I pretty much stopped being Catholic during one of the confirmation sessions.  Stuff about how you remain a Catholic forever and marriage being a lifetime thing.

            1. @normandy I don't really mind any of that, and if I get married it'll be to death, as I take those things really seriously. I just don't trust humans, being one myself, to actually know and deliver the word of god, so I abstain from following any particular cult. There's no way of knowing if they're right or not so I just hold them all as possible but uncertain, except the most crazy ones. Never went past baptism.

              1. @nerthos To be honest I just didn't care about God and Jesus all that much.  I've always found masses a waste of my time.  It was later that I had some actual disagreements with certain vales they hold.

                1. @normandy I don't find the idea of a god to be impossible, I mean, we've tamed the earth and learned how to create life from basic elements after just a few thousand years of work, so with how vast the universe is there might be some entity that by all practical senses is a god. But I'm not super fond of messiah stories and all of that, and I don't really see eye to eye with Jesus' ideas. All that "be tame, put the other cheek, only god can judge, pass and be happy in heaven". God is in the beyond and the earth is man's kingdom, so men should ensure their own happiness.

                  1. @nerthos I don't really reject the notion of a supernatural deity (or deities) but I just assume there isn't one unless there's solid proof of their existence and influence.

There are better things to worry about instead of worshipping something that may or may not exist and probably doesn't affect your life all thah

                    2. @normandy Pretty much. I don't go out of my way to scorn deities, but I also don't go out of my way to worship.

        2. @nerthos I used to attend them frequently, but now only occasionally go just to appease my dad (who is a devout catholic).  I consider myself an agnostic.

          1. @normandy My parents are catholic as most of the country, but they're not actively devout. (they don't go to church or fill the walls with crosses and stuff like that)

            1. @nerthos My dad isn't that devout but he does occasionally talks about God and Jesus in the car.

              1. @normandy Mine don't get that far. They just do the cross gesture when passing in front of a church, look at documentaries about religious stuff on tv, and take issue if you diss their religion, but that's it.

              2. @nerthos He was training to become a priest back in Vietnam before the Communists captured Saigon.

                1. @normandy That's interesting. I considered priesthood at a point to become a theologist and get access to church libraries, like pope benedict XVI, but eventually decided against it because there's some restrictions I don't like attached to it.

                  1. @nerthos I know I wouldn't fit the role even if I wanted to (I don't).

                    1. @normandy I could do it but I don't like the idea of giving up on wordly ambitions.

            2. @nerthos That's a very "Catholic" thing to do, or to be more accurate, not to do. I have only met a few "Catholics" who actually believe and live their religion.

              1. @oracle Well yeah, but you live in a country where the majority isn't catholic. Here most people are catholic by default, except for a few minorities, so the population is mostly divided in "excercising catholics" and "passive catholics" rather than in a bunch of religions. I'd say that about 80% of the place identifies as catholic.

                1. @nerthos This is true, however, I have drawn this conclusion after proselytizing in cities where the majority were Catholic.

                  1. @oracle In my opinion it's a good thing.
