      1. @nerthos Any car's going to have microcontrollers (such as the Engine Control Unit) in it but the rise of "entertainment media" and GPS in cars has also lead to the introduction of pervasive DRM "security" measures, not the least of which are anti-tampering methods to try to prevent you from taking the vehicles to a third-party mechanic.

        1. @maiyannah Oh yeah, I'm aware of that. I meant old cars. I'm a fan of '70s muscle and 80s-90s sedans. Some 90s cars like the Volkswagen Senda have modern engines with low emissions and 20km/liter when well mantained, so I see no need to move to cars with ECU, GPS, assisted direction, or any of that.

          1. @nerthos Well, when VW isn't faking the emissions test anyways.

            1. @maiyannah Over here you have to do a yearly VTV (verificación técnica vehicular, technical vehicular verification) and your car's emissions as well as many other factors are tested to check that the car's roadworthy, so I know for a fact this car is.

              1. @nerthos @maiyannah If the cops catch you driving a car that doesn't have this you get a big fine and possibly license loss or jail time if you don't pay

        2. @maiyannah @nerthos Extreme paranoia about someone modding their firmware and crashing as well. Bad publicity can cost a lot. DRM is still kiwity though.

          1. @verius @nerthos If that is a clear and present danger of having those systems then they're not worth having.
