@gargron Because GS #hashtags can contain #p.e.r.i.o.d.s. Not sure other socnets allow this.

@lnxw48 @gargron All hashtags are normalised to printable, latin characters matching [0-9a-z]. Also remember that Unicode is the evil western appropration of foreign cultures.
