      1. @kzimmerman Yes. I've been using mine unregistered for years. I used it to read many .mobi format books from Project Gutenberg, any other DRM-free e-book vendors, and also decrypted ebooks my # bought for us.

          1. @kzimmermann Pretty much. I can't think of anything to worry about if you don't register it (an opt-in step) and keep it in "airplane mode". You can then load any appropriate unencrypted format on it via USB. Of course, Amazon has still exercised unjust power over you by keeping their software closed-source and making it hard to replace it... but that's a personal choice to evaluate.
