  1. Note to self: Don't use really ripe apples for smoothies. Too sweetly and sickly.

    1. @sim Good taste. To me apples are a big no if they're too ripe, as most fruits. Sweet without acid is icky.

Yeah... I was trying to use these ones up since they've been sitting about for a few days. Probably not the best idea I've come up with.

        1. @sim If they're too ripe to eat directly, they're best used on a cake since the dough will soak most of the extreme sweetness and balance it. Otherwise they also work on compote, as you can add citrics to it to make it less sickly.

Good ideas. Not that I really eat apple cake myself.

            1. @sim There's more than one way of doing it. There's the super sweet kind with apples and syrup/caramel on top, and then also the one that has chopped apple mixed with the dough to give it flavour and make the cake less dry, which is often served without any toppings. I'm more fond of the latter.

Sounds like it would be interesting to try the one that is mixed with the dough... but I don't think I'd like the other one. I think that as sweet as it gets for me is milk chocolate. Ha.

                1. @sim I actually love it with mate cocido, since I don't like normal tea, but yeah... it goes great with any herb-based hot drink. It's just sweet enough to even out, and without much sugar or toppings it's easy to eat with a drink.

Sounds more adventurous than I ever got. What smoothie combinations would you recommend to try?

                    1. @sim Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of smoothies so I can't really give any opinions on it. At most I'd drink one based on strawberry or peach with cream but that's it.

Ahh... all right. I just need to find some good combinations I think. It is fun to experiment though, even if I don't necessarily like the end result.

                        1. @sim To be honest a fruit combination I've always enjoyed is apple, orange and banana. Specially since the orange adds a lot of juice to it.

I should give orange a try some time. I don't like banana so that makes it more complicated there.

                            1. @sim Peach goes well too instead of banana, as it's a fleshy fruit as well. Canned peach specifically.

Hmm... perhaps peach is a good idea then.
