I ended up following someone on mastodon by gherkin's instructions, and while the subscription on this end is there, it doesn't show up on the other side at all. It's completely broken @ceruleanspark

@nerthos @ceruleanspark Gargron has refused to support legacy StatusNet. Probably because it just uses pure OStatus and he'd have to start following the standard much closer.

@nerthos What bothers me is how he goes on about interoperability and standards and yet pretty much every major problem the fediverse has had with federating with mastodon has come down to him using non-compliant stuff.

@nerthos Just to give an example, it's part of the definition of a conversation to have a conversation-uri attribute, which he doesn't assign, and thats why conversations with Mastodon end up fragmented.
It's actually trying to explain this to him when he was sure he knew better which was when I stopped helping him with Mastodon problems, because it was clear he wasn't going to listen to me.-

@maiyannah If you weren't so privileged you'd realize how good you have it! after all, you're not deliberately holding yourself down to mediocrity for the sake of socjus points. That's the real privilege.

@nerthos You know, it seems they celebrate the people who do that thing by choice and beat down the people there by circumstance. Shows how much they actually care.

@maiyannah If you choose to get out, you're a race traitor or the social equivalent of it. Remember the whole Franklin "ain't no true hood brother anymore" arc in GTAV? He was the bad guy because he decided he didn't want to keep living in a ghetto stealing cars and dealing on drugs like the rest. Granted he was still a criminal but that's not the point.

@maiyannah @nerthos battles over who is more privileged than who really miss the point of who gets to control the resources in the society. I see them as a divide and conquer tactic. Keep the proles squabbling and make sure there are always some groups who can be demonized and employed at next to no cost. I saw plenty of unprivileged white people when I was in Manchester and earlier than that when I was in the Work Programme.
