    1. @jeffcliff Check out uPort application for Android and iPhone. It's an alpha-level piece of software for "sovereign identity". eg a private, completely owned decentralized identity and reputation system. Future developments in this area would be very good for voting, reputation etc.

    3. @jeffcliff blockchain voting works and is cool, but it doesn't scale up to the national level unless you use some kind of elaborate sidechain mechanism. The way I would do it is, voting machines would write an append-only log that makes an hmac of each vote and authenticates the next vote against that hmac, establishing a chain. At different intervals, perhaps even just once at poll closure, the final hmac is encoded in the bitcoin blockchain and the sidechain is made public by some means.

      Current blockchain has a theoretical limit of 605K transactions per day, 107 million people voted in the 2016 US presidential election. If we saturdate the network, it would take over 100 days to tally all the votes, without a sidechain mechanism (lightning network wouldn't help here I don't think.)
