@roka I wonder if this still works on modern distros.
-
@dolus why wouldn't it? it's mostly python.
-
@roka There are some older Ren'Py games that have broken the past couple years. Even the dev isn't sure why.
-
@dolus huh, i didn't know that. i played katawa shoujo a few months ago (autumn or early winter) and it worked just fine on my slackware. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327079

@roka A big part of the reason people wanted the devs to fully open source it is so that we can always get it to run on modern Linux distros and MacOS versions. Shame the one dev was a apple about it. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327082

@roka And his reason for withholding is scripts was the part that Fluffle Puffed me off.
>I-it was four years ago; I was a amateur!
>The code is ugly; I would be embarrassed for people to see it.
Personally, I think the jackass lost it. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327086-
@dolus they should've gone with ponscripter but it was probably too hard for some of them.
-
@roka Eventually, if there are enough people who still care, the game will have to be remade for modern systems. Maybe in the current version of Ren'py, or even better, a more beefy free engine like Godot. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327089
-
@dolus >beefy
that's a plus? https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327090-
@roka You could do more with it, yes. You can do voice work and animations in Ren'Py, but it can be awkward.

@why @roka Yup. Most of the people who worked on the game later turned into cherrys sadly (other than Mile Inel). https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327091
-
@dolus @roka 99.99999999% of western mango masquerading as anime is either already Potato Knishesry or will soon be FrankerZry
-
@why @roka Mike Inel being an exception. Pretty much anything he touches ends up better.

@roka Looks like the last update works though. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/327080

@roka I wonder if this would still work on a modern Arch install.

@roka 2012 was a good time. To be more accurate, undergrad was a good time. You could disappear for a week play one or more VN's and return an emotional wreck and no one would notice.
