trying https://git.gnu.io/h2p/Qvitter/commit/a37a4cb9f934da4e35d37d3a9d8f76977d1dc20a on quitter.se !qvitter tell me if something is broken!
-
two new features in !qvitter. (1) remote profiles opens locally https://quitter.se/attachment/3478539
-
(2) a basic user search, that doubles as that remote follow input field everyones been asking for :) https://quitter.se/attachment/3478538

@hannes2peer Nice! Thank you for that!

@hannes2peer Awesome! Btw: it would great to have #FederatedUserSearch some time. So, when a #newuser1 has registered at #instance1 and #newuser2 has registered at #instance2, they can find each other via the Search box, even though they are both new and don't have any followers anywhere.
So the Search on #instance1 should query all remote instances (that are known to the local instance because of a remote following) via a protocol extension "hey #instance2, do you happen to have #someusername?" The search query could be sent out to the other instances in parallel.
I had that idea after having a short look on that very stupid Mashable article about Mastodon, where William applener seems to have tried Mastodon.social and immediately tried to find some other guy who had just registered on another Mastodon instance, and failed. I think this is one valid point of that otherwise really stupid article. -
@mcscx2 agree, would be nice. the "find someone" does work even if the user is unknown to the instance, bit you have to know the profile url
-
@mcscx2 but yes, a proper federated user search would be really nice
-
@hannes2peer your FindSomeone box is really nice :-)
Maybe a useful future "easy" improvement could be to make it find also known-remote accounts by justing giving the @nick part.
Also partly matching of the name. So when you enter "hannes" it would return your local @hannes2peer account, your remote quit.im account and other local/known-remote *hannes* accounts.
