Here college mostly involves a lot of coffee, and getting up at 8am to study until 22 on weekends.

@archaeme Nah, I'd drink pepsi and eat chocolate rather than drink coffee, if I have to be honest. Class at 8 and I'd start waking up at 10 after shoving 4 chocolate bars in my mouth haha.

@nerthos I always try to get my classes in the afternoon and dread those that must start at 9 or 10.
-
@archaeme Same, but back then it was by luck unless you presented a work certificate that showed you could only go to class in a specific timeframe. On the plus side to get there at 8 I had to get up at 7:30

@archaeme @nerthos it involves a lot of #cofe just because I love #cofe
uni here is chill for most of the time, but when deadlines and exams get closer it becomes more hectic.. ofc it would be easier if one would just start working on assignments earlier when it's still chill but I'm starting to believe it's literally impossible to do so
having to wake up early or spend long hours at the uni is not a problem because lectures aren't mandatory for 95% of the courses, but around half of them have some weekly exercises that are, so with average 5 courses or so you might have maybe 3 days when you actually need to go to school-
@shpuld @archaeme This is roughly the same as it is in my country. USA is just an outlier with their party-oriented lodsofemone college culture.
-
@nerthos @archaeme it's quite party oriented here as well tbh... which goes very well with the fact that you don't need much attendance at all, no need to go to school while hungover etc
-
@shpuld @archaeme Oh. Over here there are parties of course but not constantly or anything, just some of the guys/gals going out once or twice a month.
-
@nerthos @archaeme
>once or twice a month
ye that's got nothing on us.. it's more like once or twice a week at best, worst is this time of the year, the 2 weeks before the first of may is a nonstop party for some in the stem culture
I know there are some people who actually attend most events, I don't know how they have the money for it, and how their livers survive through it... I basically stopped going to any student parties after the first year, had enough of that already
I'm not a biggest fan of the student culture in stem here, but atleast it's not safe spaces and trigger warnings-
@shpuld I hope it never gets like that in here. STEM colleges still somewhat manage to be places of learning where I live.

@shpuld @archaeme @nerthos student culture is cancer, the primary goal of 'higher' ed should be self-improvement - not degeneracy of letting loose because mommy and daddy cant stop you now https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/429978
-
@roka @nerthos @archaeme I wonder if the point of that culture is to make one sick and tired of excessive alcohol usage later in life, so higher educated folks don't end up getting wasted every weekend for decades like your stereotypical finnish 20-40 year old working man with a lower education
-
@shpuld @archaeme @roka Weed out the weak with alcohol poisoning so only the strong remain. To create a breed of engineers that can drink even diesel without as much as getting buzzed.
-
@nerthos @shpuld @archaeme is this the finngolian way to becoming a master race? https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/429992
-
@roka @shpuld @archaeme Alcohol doesn't freeze as easily as water, so replacing the bloodstream with an alcohol-based solution would allow finns to discard the need for clothing in the cold, and since it evaporates faster than water, it'd also allow them to perspirate fast enough to survive the saunapocalypse.
