  1. @schestowitz "The HAL, to put it as simply as possible, is a full-service Android to Linux integration stack, meant to run Linux code through the Android kernel and binary blobs in one fell swoop, leaving the floor open for Linux code. "

What is this even supposed to mean? The android kernel is linux.

      1. @lambadalambda @schestowitz ok i just googled it myself and it gave nothing useful, I guess its gone.

there used to be a completely userland version of linux that was built to run on top of microkernels like mach and l4, both to abstract away hardware differences and to isolate apps from baseband radio and gsm sftware, to reduce hacking, stealing phone keys, etc. for phones it's also because the gpu runs its own os.

        1. @moonman @schestowitz @lambadalambda It's called User Mode Linux and it's buildable from the mainline Linux source. Got it working once. Bring your own userland.
