    1. @ceruleanspark can we also blame this on windows 8 as it isn't a nice thing?

      1. @renovatedkitchen Man I'm an IT professional and even I think Windows 8 needs taking outside and shooting.

        1. @ceruleanspark I'm installing it now. At first I didn't care because all I use my toughbook for is music and Internet. Now I'm kinda freaking myself out because I'm honestly worried even the simplest of tasks will be impossible. Where are my windows 7 discs :.(

          1. @renovatedkitchen W8 doesn't /remove/ anything. It just changes where they are. Given that microsoft is going to cram W8 up your **** regardless of whether you want it or not, you might as well take the opportunity to figure it out now.

        2. @ceruleanspark They have made metro mandatory in the server version as well!!!!!! ITS CRAZY, CRAZY!!!!!!

          1. @nlghtmaremoon To be honest, Metro on the server version makes more sense to me. I log into my various servers to do very specific tasks, like add users to active directory or close exchange mailboxes. A highly specialised UI actually makes that easier.

            1. @ceruleanspark well, my main real worry is drivers. My pappy was meant for XP and that's how Panasonic wants it to be. It's a pain to install them for windows 7 already. Hope 8 keeps them

              1. @renovatedkitchen W8 uses the same driver model as 7, so it should operate on the same set of drivers.

                1. @ceruleanspark True, but about a third of mine failed to install on the consumer preview for whatever reason.

                  1. @eaglehooves Usually halfassed version checking flipping out if the version string is too high. You could probably just edit the infs to get them to work.

                2. @ceruleanspark thank you :) I kinda feel better now. Like you said. W8 is inevitable.

            2. @ceruleanspark Usually such programs, are still open, from the last time I logged in, and they were used... (ESP active directory)
