People, stop saying that #Valve is bringing Steam to GNU !Linux when theyre linking against, packaging for and only supporting one distro.
-
Who said that? I've only seen them definitely saying they'll support Ubuntu.
-
@xrevan86 Everything ive read has said they are developing on and for Ubuntu. Id love to see a list of other distros they plan to support.
-
@lowell While I am doing so. Their Beta Application isn't necessarily a survey to determine what platforms they will support.
-
@lowell "An 'other' option with no box for options also leaves out a lot of granularity.
-
@lowell Also having all of the video card driver questions refer to Ubuntu package management seems telling.
-
@trashheap Debian is called "The Universal Operating System" for a reason, support it and you support like 70% of all distributions.
-
@trashheap Packages don't vary much across distros, if it works on Ubuntu it'll work on Debian & 70% of all distros, like all other software
-
@trashheap "For Ubuntu" merely means "packaged as .debs". Just use "alien" and you've got yourself RPMs, problem solved.
