@adrianbrony if they don't own the rights, then who does? I'm not sure I understand how all this works. does it go to the actual creators? or does it just become public domain?

@nightwillow all I know is along they way they somehow lost all the rights to the G1 characters except for applejack. Faust said that's why FiM didn't use the G1 cast.

@adrianbrony What I heard was something along the lines of Hasbro didn't renew the rights because some of the names were fairly generic.

@sparkyvelt no, Faust does not. Hasbro bought the rights of anything she made for the purposes of the franchise. that's generally how it goes.
