@snowlynx I think you're used to stories which the protagonists and viewers know the conditions of success and failure for their long-term goals. Twilight, not really having clearly-defined long-term goals, studies and studies with no clear terms for success (though short-term consequences of failure is always apparent). Twilight doesn't realize her destiny is to become a pretty purple princess public timeline until the last episode. So don't look at the last episode as a dysfunctional info-dump. Look at it as conflict: Twilight is tasked to finish a spell and after failing the first time threatens her friends' well-being. The consequence for succeeding was for Celestia to reveal why Twilight is doing all of this extensive studying and training.

I think we should discuss our thoughts on princess twilight
-
@dockaboo811 is it bad if I forget she was even crowned a princess? I just remember the alicorn business.
-
@flamingpandaomg i wasn't that happy with it actually. kinda came out of nowhere
-
@snowlynx true dat
-
@snowlynx spoiler:
-
@rarity and how is that?
-
@dockaboo811 To be honest that moment was coming right from the start. It was obvious whe was going to be a princess sooner or later.
-
@snowlynx I mean they tell her "oh hey whatup (troll) ur a princess, do more of my crap." and it was princess twilight with the snap of a hoof. And also its true that it will be pretty hard to pull of making twilight a loveable character. I dont want twilight to be an applejack. applejack get no love :(
-
@dockaboo811 I honestly think twilight is going back to being a unicorn in season four. I think that she'll want to be with her friends instead.
-
@swagduin true dat
-
@swagduin See, that's what I thought. Celestia saw big things coming from Twilight, if Hasbro hadn't forced the issue I could see her becoming an alicorn anyway at some point. Maybe in the final season.
-
@snowlynx YES.
-
@snowlynx try three seasons
-
@snowlynx I didn't agree with the pacing either. I assumed something like that took... a while, I guess. And more effort.
-
@publictimeline plus the almost year for season 3 XD
-
@dockaboo811 the almost year?
-
@snowlynx No, she did all the stuff for princess celestia as her "test" to become a princess
-
@publictimeline we waited pretty much a year
-
@snowlynx aniem is bad example. It takes them thirty episodes to use the restroom
-
@snowlynx you read my mind
-
@snowlynx I'm not too sure how something like that could be handled better given the context. Honestly I'm okay with how it worked out. It may have been a bit packed for one episode, but I think there's not enough there for two.
-
@neurario What if they had another episode quickly going over all the things Twilight did, and then an actual event of her becoming an alicorn, instead of just *twinkle* TA-DA
-
@snowlynx @flamingpandaomg %100 agree
-
@snowlynx Actually its a good idea. bu an episode just to explain is a bit much.
-
@snowlynx I think a re-cap would be better than "HEY YOU REMEMBER ALL THAT STUFF YOU DID? YEAH? ALICORN TIME, BABY!" *breaks into song*

@flamingpandaomg yep.
-
@snowlynx bah. I don't mind Twilicorn, but it could have been handled better, is all I mean.
-
@snowlynx no, citing anime as an example doesn't show what you mean. The problem here is her princesshood and becoming an alicorn is the culmination of all of her successes and growth over three seasons. MLP being a girl's show with princesses, where princesses are pretty much the best thing in the world you can be, kinda telegraphed this bit. Season 2 technically made Twi a princess through her brother's marriage, but the real point there was exalting another princess and creating more interest in princesses in the show. Season 3 premiere hints at Twilight being far more important with ambiguous hinting/foreshadowing/whatever you call it. Finally, in s3ep13, Twilight comes across a problem so overwhelming she has to create new magic to save her friends. Creating new magic allowed her to finally see the whole picture, and learn where her path was taking her, whereas Twilight normally couldn't see the forest for the trees due to her lessons and saving the world all the time.
-
@snowlynx that makes celestia a stalker.
-
@snowlynx I think you misunderstand me.
-
@publictimeline *toy line
-
@snowlynx @publictimeline I THINK YOU BOTH DON'T UNDERSTAND ME. :c
-
@snowlynx invest in short-sword and mercantile. Only way to go.
