One of the things that's only really clear 30 years later—and actually really interesting—is just how excellent the #soundtrack to #BillAndTed's Excellent Adventure was: it seems to have perfectly captured a lot things—most obviously the nature of #1980s rock music, but most interestingly by having the prescience to cast the big acts so of-the-era that #popculture pretty much forgot them all a few decades on.

Exists in theory, at least: I remember seeing generator-powered bicycle lights in the early #1980s. If wheels were not turning, lights went off.

@takepapayaakenji $CITY started installing sodium vapor streetlights in the early #1980s. They seemed brighter than the mercury vapor street lights (with the pale greenish light) they replaced. Felt safer to walk down the street at night.

@benfell I was at a meeting in late #1980s or early #1990s where regional !SoCal water suppliers like DWP/MWD were told that everything was based on an unusually wet time in first half of 20th century. Droughts of 100 years or longer are normal for western half of US, and a big investment in desalinization would be necessary. None of them have done anything about it.
