Review of Rocket Chat ( https://batcaveposter.club/url/243869 )
Nice piece of software, has some desirable features that Mattermost is missing, like custom emojis, emoji react (thus emulating Discord to some extent) and the ability to purge a room of messages (inexplicably Mattermost does not have this.)
There are some bugs but they can be worked around. There's a role system for assigning powers to users which is great, but it doesn't have enough things. For instance, there's no way to delegate custom emojo creation to room users. The room system is inferior to Mattermost in that it doesn't support multiple teams on the same server. There's also no way to invite someone directly to a room via shared link ala Discord. There are some bugs related to registration that make it a minor hassle to sign up new users.
All in all, not a bad experience once you get it up and going, just many little and not so little things detract from an otherwise great experience.
8/10

I'm wondering if the 'Telegram Secret Chat Canceled' a bug, feature, design flaw or something else? Does anybody know. It's just so annoying that the secret chats get canceled more or less randomly. It's because of chat's getting "out of sync". But that shouldn't happen. What's the root cause of the problem? Is there some kind of security consideration which is source of the 'problem', so it's by design like that. Or is it some kind of fail. Anyway, it's guaranteed to deliver bad user experience (UX). But that's nothing new. It seems that this issue has persisted for several years. I think it's triggered by the immediate key renegotiation failing due to timeout or something like that. But what are the related parameters and so on.

I asked about #Telegram #chat #history #retention #policy. It's just as it says on their page, but it's written in bit confusing style. So to make it clear. Telegram chat history is kept forever on Telegram servers / cloud / database. Unless, all parties of the chat delete it. Which basically means that most of chats are kept #forever. And that's good to remember. If you delete something from chat, you'll only remove it from your personal view. It's still maintained in cloud for everyone else. Just as they say, you can send stuff to cloud and 'delete it', but it actually doesn't mean anything at all. When it's out there, it's there forever. kw: Telegram, chat, message, history, data, retention, deletion, removal, policy, IM, instant messaging, #privacy, #security.

Is Telegram insecure? - Many of the Telegram clients don't even support E2E encrypted #telegram #secret #chat mode. Data is still delivered over encrypted connection, but it's not #end2end encrypted. If you've got something truly confidential, who would use any "secure app" anyway? I'm sure the stake holders wouldn't love such actions and it would be blatant breach of confidentiality.

It seems that Telegram Secret Chat sessions might break when Internet connectivity is bad. That's not great. I think something isn't right there. I guess it might be related to key ratchets moving forward yet not being used by the remote end as supposed. #im #telegram #apps #android #messaging #instant #encryption #secure #chat

Yes, the #chat behaviour or better #temporal, synchronity aspect is because of the clients, e.g. one could also build a chat-like tool for !ostatus protocol (in fact the dents arrive in my jabber and I can immediately reply from there). The access to #history is just a matter of preference, e.g. like #IRC xmpp offers channels where you can let a bot run and make the #logs public (when you have everyone's permission), searchable ...

We need a #roadmap for the next 3, 6 and 12 months. I was unhappy 1.5 months ago about statusnet / GNUsocial (1). A merge announcement was made 3 months ago (2) and that was it. Then we made a #chat (#Evan facilitated it) and a #TODO list (3) was added and since then I only see @mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se doing things (also #coding ;-)). What I see so far is that the statusnet #movement, PR, mouth-to-mouth ads are done by the "#feds" (and only a few of 'em) but not by those who actually said: "OK, we'll take over the project and continue" (1) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/168225 (2) http://www.gnu.org/software/social/merge.html (3) http://status.net/wiki/GNU_Social_TODO

Yeah, we were exploring #chat http://oracle.skilledtests.com/url/6928 (via Pidgin and Coccinella) and other options like #Moodle, mailing list, #ssh access, Quicktime #streaming, ... because we found the means in a #wiki for #learning may be limiting. 4 years after that experiment I shared my view as: some say the existing #MediaWiki environment is not sufficient, though I guess everyone has to decide for themselves. I've come to like Mediawiki and #IRC - because of its simplicity http://oracle.skilledtests.com/url/6929 While I read all that now I think of: goal orientation and the personal aspect of learning. The #mentor model to teach is still the best, but there's unfortunately a #limit with how many learners a mentor can interact
