@wowaname @moonman I keep bringing up the p-word, but *no public timeline* and *no character limit* was a key feature of #Pump.io ... but of course, that was a big user complaint, too, so then they came up with a "firehose" site, where your instance could send all its public posts and your client could subscribe to the unfiltered firehose feed.
I think a pubfeed makes sense if your instance has fewer than a few thousand active users. Above that, it rapidly becomes useless, because there's too much activity.
But the "followers" collection is even more useless. Something like #Diaspora's Aspects and #GPlus's Circles should have been created instead. -
A somewhat older (2016) but still interesting article about the history of #Hubzilla. Also contains a biography of Mike Macgirvin the developer that started #Friendica, Hubzilla and #Osada. It's interesting to learn that Mike launched Mistpark, the predecessor of Friendica, before #Diaspora*.

Hey there social media hosting people and developers working on any of the #Fediverse systems!
Is there anyone of you at the Chaos Communication Congress in Leipzig this year right after Christmas? Is there anyone interested to have a meeting there?
Just some exchange, we would need some people to moderate the event, but basically some meetup to exchange information and get to know other players in the field.
"Someone" could then register a "talk" or "meetup" for the upcoming congress, I'd say a duration of about 1.5 to 2 hours and maybe 60+ people can be expected, assuming there is many #webmasters or #developers among the visitors at the #35C3.
Any #devs and #webmaster of the following systems, or any that I might have missed that are using #ActivityPup and can communicate with the others, please comment here if you like the idea!

Tried #MeWe quickly, but I particularly didn't like it's #walled #garden design. As well as, that stuff can't be public (so it's not a publishing platform) and especially the fact, that they always require user to register to see ANY content. That's what I've so deeply hated with so many services. Even #Twitter has been doing that lately, and it's utterly enraging. #googleplusrefugee I've also checked out #diaspora and #mastodon again in detail, and well, there are just so many rough spots on these #federated #networks too. And no easy way of fixing those.

Exactly that's the point: #Diaspora is not a neutral piece of software and hosting a pod for more than private purpose is also some kind of responsibility. I had another discussion to read demonstrating the major problem of "freedom of speech". There are restrictions to be accepted: My freedom ends when it tends to restrict the one of others (including all earthlings), their dignity, their rights to handled fair and without discrimination.
