  6. Onion based federation is now working with on . This means that it's now possible to follow users on "onion only" installs.

This type of federation is quite significant, because it means independence from the DNS and CA systems. It means that even if you don't control your local internet router or don't have money to spend on domain names you can still create a social network. It significantly reduces the complexity barrier to entry for running a home server.

  10. you know, it doesn't matter if we use #pleroma or #gnusocial or #friendica or #mastodon etc. (are there more we can connect with?). the important thing is that we can communicate with each other. therefore we should rejoice over every additional server that springs into life, no matter what software it runs. whenever the media hypes something that is part of the #fediverse, it's good for all of us. but maybe we need a new name for the whole thing? I feel like "fediverse" doesn't cut it.

  19. I've been running #pleroma on my #raspberrypi3 for a while now.

About 2 weeks ago I started learning #elixir and #phoenix
Now I've hacked my local #pleroma instance to support bot services: parse an incoming message, take an action, post the result. Elixir is really easy!

Inspired by the Reddit "Place" I created a proof-of-concept of a collaborative canvas. If you like, you can give it a try:
    follow @pixelbot
and post some pixels to it. The bot will post the updated canvas.

  22. at $3/month you can get hardware that can comfortably host a instance.

pleroma is designed to be easy to host on a potato, because one of the main ideological points of the project is that the fediverse is best off when there are many small instances working together instead of larger instances
