@neimzr4luzerz but it's not a reason to make #Slack the official chat channel for #CC as a global network, or do decision-making there
-
@neimzr4luzerz If so, that's a good reason to have #CC people who are already using #Slack talking up CC and recruiting there, as with FB

I'm really disappointed to see that more and more projects and initiatives are switching to proprietary communication platforms. This can't be the solution! https://io.schiessle.org/url/24365 #CreativeCommons #Slack

@bes There is alternatives so I think it's irresponsible for #CreativeCommons who preach openness to use services like #Slack instead of FLOSS alternatives like #RocketChat https://rocket.chat

@gargron I haven't used #Slack or #Teamspeak. I'll look into #Discord.

Don't use proprietary collaboration platforms, there are plenty of #freesw ones (libre and gratis) http://uk.businessinsider.com/facebook-at-work-to-be-available-in-october-charge-per-employee-2016-9?r=US&IR=T #facebook #slack

@tuttle Last weekend I was ready to stay home instead of going to a "fix/remake" workshop (me representing !umehack) because they hadn't setup _any_ communication outside of walled gardens (apart from collecting emails).
I had told them they should get just an ordinary website. It didn't happen until I explained that only supporting walled gardens directly oppose a hacker ideology, diminishing my motivation to help. Also their mails had "Sent from my iPhone" advertisement, despite Apple's infamous environmental disservices (not ideal for the workshop!). I had to ask them several times to remove it before they did so.
I think it's important to show those who want help from the !foss community that what we do is in fact important and that centralisation of the internet is bad for _all of us_.
Our common struggle is in fact so important that we _should_ say no to "bad deals". If we don't say no to #Slack, #GitHub, #Facebook etc. it's effectively the same as saying _yes_ to them.Tuesday, 19-Apr-16 08:21:43 UTC from social.umeahackerspace.se at 63°49'42"N 20°15'34"E Repeated by akionux -

I need to get the house clean but my busted foot is making that difficult. Excuse to #slack, I guess. It's hard to relax with a messy house, though.
