      • !movies - "J. Edgar" - I'm no historian, so I can't say whether or not this was faithful or accurate or anything. I will, however, say that it was amazing. The story of an entire nation's fears and conflicts represented by a few men and women (and at many times only one man) was inspiring and horrifying to watch. "J. Edgar" was as much a story of one man's life as it was a story of a nation's development over several generations, of the struggle to remain free while also being under protection, and of the cost that some men choose to bear for the good of all. Beautifully filmed, marvelously acted by all parties involved, every inch a technical and artistic masterpiece. A+ with no reservations.

      • Many of you may call my ideas insane but I prefer the term ambitious, but believe it is possible to unite as one great body in order to succeed in our pony spreading endeavors. However seeing that I am but one meager pony @carcino will be my VP and closest most trusted advisor in my term as president. So remember if change is your flavor vote Madflavors for president. • !movies - "The Muppets" - I'm not gonna lie, RDN. This is the most fun I've ever had in a dark room with my family. <.< But seriously. I loved everything about this movie. The Muppets themselves were in amazing form, the humans were completely worthy of their place alongside such greats, and the celebrity cameos were perfectly placed highlights of giddiness. The story itself is pretty straightforward and uncomplicated, and really serves to give us a good dose of Muppet mayhem. It was heartwarming, nostalgic, hilarious, and had a couple of pony-worthy Aesops handled in a beautifully not-heavyhanded manner. And it had a Toy Story short beforehand! :D There's no reason not to see this movie. Total A.

          • !movies - "Jumper" - Started halfway through, so I can't really review it. But I just want to say the protagonists are Slasher Movie Stupid. Like, whoa. Like, drinking a skull & crossbones bottle thinking it's "pirate juice" stupid. I mean, how do they dress themselves level stupid. A team of the first-to-dies in slasher flicks could take these guys out (and Jumpers are superhumans). They make Forrest Gump look like Marilyn Vos Savant. So. Flipping. Stupid.

          • !movies - "The Thing" (2011) - Prequel, not a remake, of John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982). However, don't think that just because you've seen JCTT you know how the new one will end. The plot is the same - there's an alien in Antarctica. The story, however, is significantly different, and it does a fair bit to expand the story of the two films together. JCTT focused more on paranoia and what lurks in the dark, whereas 2011's did have some good paranoia moments, but broke out into Action scenes much more frequently. The Thing itself was wonderfully well done when it appeared, and it had some really neat tricks up its metamorphic sleeves. One thing I appreciated was that the "split the party" moments had a darn good reason to happen, as opposed to stupid teen slasher flicks. Overall, though, it wasn't a necessary film and I still like JCTT better, but this was still good for what it was. B+

            • @scribus And now, # time! :p If you don't have !RDNrefresh blocking # and you care about "The Thing" (2011) stop reading now! Alrighty. There was a scene where they were trying to determine who was a Thing by checking for fillings - it can't mimic non-organic materials. I thought, "Damn, I'd be screwed, I've never had a filling!" Then I thought, "Wait, I have earrings!" And later on, a character's earring became a plot point. Moral of the story - NEVER FIGHT SHAPESHIFTING ALIENS IN ANTARCTICA EVER! That earring only protects you from humans clever enough to think that deeply; Things will still eat you dead. :p

          • !movies - "50/50" - I guess the first thing to get out of the way is that this is not just a movie about guys trying to score sympathy sex because of cancer. It is part of it, but actually a small one. The rest is a general story of cancer, the people who have it, and the people who love them. Everybody did such a really good job (especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt), but at the end of it Seth Rogen was really just playing a toned-down version of everyone he always plays, and Anna Kendrick felt like she was pulling out the same character she'd played in "Up in the Air." That said, I did enjoy it, and it wasn't lacking anything - it just didn't really do anything above-and-beyond. I just wanted lo like it even more. B- or so.

              • !movies - So I'm one of *those* guys who typically says that "the original was better." I've even talked about opening an independent theater and showing the original versions of movies whenever a remake is released. And yet, I can't make myself get mad about the American version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." It's got Daniel Craig! And it's directed by David Fincher!! #
