I think one thing to add is that an impulsive, gut reaction to someone's bigoted mindset =/= an irrational, permanent disregard for human lives based on traits such as race or nationality that someone will willingly and vehemently defend

Today is my 5th RDNniversary, which is absolutely barmy. I can't believe I've spent more than a quarter of my life here.
I don't know what to say that isn't awfully cliché—you people really are like family to me. I'm only the person I am today because as a 13-year-old smartass I joined this website and I had to learn things. About life, about people, about myself. Everyone who's come and gone and stayed has shaped me in some big or small way. I feel like I'm a better person every day I come here, truly. I'm smarter, funnier, happier.
A lot about RDN has changed in my 5 years. There are people I miss, people I don't. Admittedly I don't think I would have felt the same warmth that I did in 2011 if I'd joined today. I feel lucky in that sense; not everyone can just stumble into a place like this and feel like it's where they should be. But I was lucky, and I still am.
Thank you, RDN, for all of it. I love you, and I can't wait to spend 5 more years with you. <3 -
