  12. @nerthos Make sure any colony you want to keep has a development level over 1000. Opponents can then only "Occupy" the planet, rather than take ownership outright. (You can only take over an occupied planet by wiping out the /entire empire/.) If you have planets in a solar system with a stargate, make sure you capture all the planets in that solar system. If you don't, an opponent will strike an unoccupied planet, move forces into place there, take the stargate. If your opponent has a stargate inside your territory they can warp ships to it from anywhere in a 10 parsec radius inside 30 minutes.

  13. @nerthos To be honest, the point of diminishing returns on any individual production structure (Factories, barracks, Orbitals) is about 600. That gives you about 60% discount. Above that, unless you're building really expensive equipment, you spend more building them than you save.

  14. @nerthos I went for orbital facilities. A strong orbital defense is essential. Make sure you have some Exium mines on the surface too.

  28. @lightningcrash Though I was probably one of those people. I was in the midst of a prolonged mental breakdown at the time, so I don't even /remember/. I have a blank-spot in my memory covering about 5 months of time either side of when you left.

  29. @lightningcrash The rules and staffing issues are things I very much want to get to the heart of here, because it really is sucking the fun out of the place. I'm not sure what I can do about the stupid though.
