  1. I am glad that at least Reddit appreciates Christopher Ecclestones 9th Doctor. The most common suggestion for "What would you change about the reboot" is "Treat Christopher Ecclestone better" or "Tie him into a longer contract".

    1. @ceruleanspark I'd have liked to have seen more of Eccleston. I thought he did a damn good job and it's a shame that he was only able to do one season.

      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx He was excellent, and I can't believe there are people out there who actively encourage others to skip his season.

        1. @ceruleanspark Really? If anything, I'd tell people to skip the most recent season. I just thought it was... bad. But that's just me.

          1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I honestly don't think any of the seasons are bad enough to warrant skipping entirely. There are certainly poor episodes, or poor runs of episodes, but no season is unwatchable

            1. @ceruleanspark Yeah, I hope that Capaldi can pick it back up. I thought it nose dived (for me anyway) once Clara came on. Then again I don't really like her that much. She drives me insane.

              1. @xeleanorxrigbyx Clara kind of irritated me too. I kind of hope she's run her course now and can bow out /in a sensible way/. I liked that Martha just quit being a companion, no MASSIVELY TRAGIC DEATH or CONTRIVED MENTAL RESET or CONVENIENT PARALLEL UNIVERSE. Clara should do the same.

                1. @ceruleanspark Clara reminds me of a small puppy. Especially on that submarine episode. Everyone is dying and she's running around going "Doctor did I do good!? Did I do good, Doctor!? cue maniacal eye twitch

                  1. @xeleanorxrigbyx Clara just felt very flat to me. She sums it up for herself when she describes her sole purpose in life as "Saving the doctor". That's all she seemed to be, a vehicle for that single, specific plot thread (which didn't even have a proper resolution)

                    1. @ceruleanspark True. I feel like now she's just sorta there to be a pretty face. Although even that sorta weirds me out because she looks super super young to me.

                      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I don't mind you taking over the feed. It's better than it being idle. People come out of the woodwork when someone talks, but when it just sits there, the look, see nothing happening, and look away

                      2. @xeleanorxrigbyx I think her purpose now is to provide a solid anchor to the previous series to ease fans into the new doctor, because of how different Capaldi appears from his predecessors.

                        1. @ceruleanspark True. They were going younger and younger and then he's just a bit of a swivel the opposite way, but I have hopes for him. Frankly I was always a fan of Martha and Donna because they were useful. I wasn't overly thrilled with Rose either for the most part.

                          1. @xeleanorxrigbyx Donna was by far my favourite companion, and deserved a far better ending than she got. I feel like her character got screwed because it would make the following season easier to contrive, rather than for any solid plot based reason. I honestly felt the same about Amy and Rory's departure. Just tragedy for the sake of giving the writers an excuse to make the Doctor shout at people and angst around for a bit after.

                            1. @ceruleanspark Oh I greatly enjoyed Donna. She wasn't just there to swoon over the Doctor. She got stuff done and I think she was a great balance. But yeah, I feel like her ending was just them trying to wrap it up with no string attached (looking at you, Rose). Same with Amy and Rory. Though I thought the Angels Take Manhattan was (for the most part) an amazing episode. But I'm biased. I like Weeping Angels.

                              1. @xeleanorxrigbyx The angels were good in literally one episode. (blink) Otherwise they were just stupid poorly written faux horror standins for when the writers couldn't come up with a decent monster.

Friday, 25-Apr-14 13:13:58 UTC from web
                                1. @ceruleanspark Ooh yes, Blink was good. I don't know. I don't know if they've really had excellent villains. I mean, Daleks and Cybermen were cool. But they keep regurgitating the Daleks. It's all like "This is the last one EVAR" and then suddenly they find a loophole. And I feel like the Cybers could have been so much cooler but I guess they have to be dumbed down because kids watch it.

Friday, 25-Apr-14 13:16:42 UTC from web
                                  1. @xeleanorxrigbyx The Daleks and the Cybermen actually have personality, and you can have an actual conflict with them though. Angels literally do nothing and can't be killed. I agree than they should stop pretending they've killed the Daleks and or Cybermen forever though.

                                    1. @ceruleanspark True. I was amused by the Daleks vs. Cybers episode. But yeah, I can see the whole anti-Angel thing. I thought they were a neat idea (I hadn't seen anything quite like it at the time) but I can see how they can become a tired idea. Still better than the Raxacoricofallapatorians.

                                      1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I am 90% sure that they were only there because David Tennant liked saying it.

                                            1. @ceruleanspark Wasn't Slitheen just the family?

                                    2. @ceruleanspark Pretending the Daleks and/or Cybermen are dead forever is nothing new. It's like saying they should change the TARDIS from a police box or make the main character not-a-Time Lord. It's grandfathered in.

Friday, 25-Apr-14 13:37:44 UTC from web
                                      1. @thelastgherkin Changing Sexy or The Doctor would be to change a major character. To just stop talking about how we'll "never see them again, because we threw them carelessly in a random direction". wouldn't

Friday, 25-Apr-14 13:42:46 UTC from web
                                        1. @ceruleanspark I'm pretty sure the last time they did that with the Daleks was Journey's End. Doomsday, Evolution of the Daleks, Victory of the Daleks and every time since that has established that at least one gets away.

Friday, 25-Apr-14 13:45:37 UTC from web
                                          1. @thelastgherkin Wasn't Victory of the Daleks literally about Matt Smith shouting about how he'd killed them all and they couldn't be there.

                                            1. @ceruleanspark Yeah, following Journey's End. So you're saying they should stop that thing they haven't done since 2008.

                                              1. @thelastgherkin Haven't the Daleks only actually been in it like...twice since then

                                                1. @ceruleanspark The Pandorica Opens, Asylum of the Daleks, and they were among the threats in The Time of the Doctor. One briefly appeared in The Wedding of River Song, and the Time War versions were in The Day of the Doctor. The adventure game City of the Daleks was treated like an extra episode on its release as well.
