Animators are not given an easy time on YouTube. I know this, I have known this. But I'm double kiwied by the fact that I'm so damn bad at it. Commissions are not an option because there are people who churn out more in a shorter amount of time and of higher quality, so who would want to buy from me? I'm not nearly at the audience base where I can profitably sell merch. People have tried Patreon, but if people block ads on my videos there's no way in hell they'll want to PAY me. I have been screwed by my choice of profession, and there is literally nothing else in this world that I am good at. I'm going to end up working a 9 to 5 job at Wal-Mart.

@rarity My point regarding AdBlock in that post was more "people don't even want to sit through an advertisement, so they won't want to pay for a cartoon"

@metaltao Nope. If I was a Minecraft LPer who puts out a 30 minute video every week, companies would fight each other to put an ad on my video, but I am not any of these things.

@metaltao Sometimes leving other people out of the spotlight that put work and art into everything.

@metaltao Zeurel does not rely on ads because he can't. Most of his income is from people who hire him. Oney can't even afford decent internet.

@metaltao YouTube's system is based on upload frequency and upload length. There are twelve year olds playing Minecraft right now that will make more this month than I will all year.
