@tiffany I've been lacking motivation to do and continue doing a lot of stuff lately. I'll try starting a sketch and end up throwing it out or start writing out the chord progression to a song and just discard it after a few bars.

@northernnarwhal I know how much that sucks. I haven't done anything productive aside from one little drawing in about a week; I gave up on making those sprites since I didn't find it appealing anymore.

@tiffany I've had this story idea in my head for a while now and I've been thinking about really laying it down but every time I decide I'm going to I just procrastinate it.

@northernnarwhal I wish I had a story or something to work with. I need like a really strong foundation before I can draw or write or whatever, so I never really have spur of the moment creative sessions and that's lame

@tiffany I've actually had the concept of the story, the main themes I want to cover, and most of the main cast fleshed out for a while now, it's just a matter of materializing it.

@northernnarwhal Gosh, that's a heck of a lot of stuff. I've never achieved that much in projects I've worked on for several years

@tiffany Though actually coming with ideas for stories isn't too tough, it's more of really writing them. I can't stand my writing, and I know that happens with anyone who writes but I genuinely feel like I wouldn't want to read anything I write and therefore who else would?

@northernnarwhal Perfectly understandable. Like, when I've written I haven't even considered outside opinions, but what gets me is that because I really need to flesh out my ideas before I present them, I feel no need to do anything because it's all so clear in my head, and writing it just sullies that.

@tiffany Usually my biggest hurdle is writing good dialogue, I feel I always end up being too overt with my ideas and can't present them in an interesting but also nuanced manner.

@northernnarwhal Oh man, interesting plot development is so hard to do when one of your major influences was heavily retroscripted. I watched so much Home Movies as a kid and while I think that makes my dialogue sound more realistic, it also makes it more difficult to get a point across.

@northernnarwhal I feel you there. I hate when I just flat-out describe but I also hate it when I try and make everything sound more condense in its detailing because it sounds terrible in my head

@mrmattimation What's funny is some of my favourite books ever have pretty boring plots. Like take Heart of Darkness, one of my all time favourites, for example. The book is pretty much the main character recalling his events of going on a boat from place to place and observing whatever happened there. But it's the fact that all the character interactions had so much meaning and intent behind them, and pretty much every line of dialogue could relate to the novella's major themes. Plus the prose had such an interesting style, the way Conrad could describe things in both the abstract then bring focus to them or vice versa is incredible.

@tiffany Yeah, I've been trying to add more focus and coherence to my writing. Often times I get way too derailed and indulgent in my imagery.

@northernnarwhal I haven't tried writing in yonks. I was gonna draw more RDN fighting game stuff for fun but I just couldn't.
