  1. It received a perfect 10/10 from IGN. As we all know, IGN is not known for giving great scores to slightly above average games.

    1. @mrmattimation Jonathan Blow made it. It was /always/ going to get rave reviews. It could literally have been a lovingly rendered 3D model of his genitals and people would still wax lyrical about it.

      1. @ceruleanspark While I agree that Jonathan Blow is a critic's darling, in all fairness The Witness does look like a pretty interesting experience.

        1. @northernnarwhal I certainly don't "get" it, which I'm sure means I'm of low intelligence, but I honestly agree that gaming needs more interesting experiences and less yearly iterations. I think that's probably why that one other game with the baby goat got so much traction. There is a market for gamers who actually want to experience novelty.

          1. @ceruleanspark I don't think it says anything about your intelligence- it's just not your kind of thing and that's okay. I wouldn't say playing or not playing certain games is really indicative of one's intelligence, but that's another conversation entirely. I agree with your second point though, in many industries (though perhaps especially in gaming) people will often champion novel and more idiosyncratic experiences.

            1. @northernnarwhal I mean, I don't honestly believe that playing specific games is indicative of intelligence or lack thereof, but it sure is a reliable ad hominem attack that people like to bust out to shut down debates.

              1. @ceruleanspark Which is unfortunate, because words like those imply a really unilateral method of media engagement that's both pompous and lacks understanding.

      2. @ceruleanspark Oh, like how Tim Schaefer's new game got funded immediately despite his previous mishandling and ambiguity of the location an absurd amount of crowd-sourced funds?

        1. @mrmattimation Yes, or how people keep giving Peter Molyneux money.
