  1. So apparently many android phones require you to outright disable all sounds to turn off the camera sound. That's ridiculous. Why spend >$200 on something that'll make a sound like a 50's camera each time you take a pic?

    1. @nerthos Android phone user here: Can confirm this is terrible and I have no idea why you can't just disable the camera sound on its own.

      1. @narwhal @nerthos @adiwan It's funny because they implemented it years ago after a social panic about people using smartphones to take pictures secretly in changing rooms.

        1. @ceruleanspark In other words: retards ruin it for everyone yet again.

          1. @nerthos In this case I think it's just lazy manufacturers. They added it without really thinking it through, and have never re-evaluated their design. Plenty of other devices get it right. My firefox phone has a silent camera, my Palm pre 2 had a silent camera, and my old windows phones had a silent camera. Even the iPhone, the king of "designing for the lowest common denominator" has a silent camera.

            1. @ceruleanspark Well, I'm turning it off as soon as I buy any. Also I'll ask you as well since you know way more than me about it: thoughts on the galaxy j7?

            2. @ceruleanspark By the way, I think you'd enjoy Starpoint Gemini if you haven't played it already.

    2. @nerthos It's an acustic response. Maybe you set up a self-timer or you want to do a self-portrait. That said: I also disable the camera shutter sound. It would be cool if there was an option to change the sound to something less annoying.

      1. @adiwan I meant the shutter sound. @narwhal I've found an app that does it automatically, but it's highly impractical. I suppose it's due to all the imbeciles that would otherwise take pics of others without their consent, but the solution to that is not crippling functionality.

        1. @nerthos Yeah, it's really more of a mild inconvenience than anything else. Basically means that since I like to take pictures of lots of presentations during lectures I keep my phone on silent a lot.

          1. @narwhal Do you have any opinions on the Samsung j7? I'll probably get one of those.

          2. @narwhal @nerthos It's so you can't take pictures up girl's skirts when they aren't looking.

            1. @mrmattimation Hey, if I wanted to do that I could do it anyway, regardless of the sound. Also if I were into that I'd just ask so they pose.

            2. @mrmattimation This seems to be the case, but that just makes it kinda odd because you can still turn off the sound so it's not really solving the problem.
