Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is on national, free access, TV.
Proper culture.
On TV.
Someone must have died for this.
On mine soul such sacrifice shall not be for naughtSaturday, 16-Apr-16 22:04:19 UTC from web-
@zennx ...but PBS always shows stuff like that? Also, Shakespeare was basically the the potty humor of his time fyi
-
@rarity people put it up as "cultured" because it's old, and he's a great playwright, but there's a reason they are and were so popular; it's simple stuff with weenie jokes
-
@rarity Yes, but it's elegant, classy potty humor.
-
@rarity I live in Portugal dude, the highest level of culture on average on TV is Dora the Explorer
it's disgusting really, a cosmos of intelligence, culture and information, at the fingertips of one and all...
and they watch pathetic shows about morons arguing about nothing for no cherrying reason
may the imbeciles who created reality TV burn in the pits of Hades for all eternity and to the Tuesday after that -

@rarity Language as we have it today was created with 2 purposes only
to seduce women and to make men laugh
But credit where credit is due, Shakespeare created much of today's archetypes of storytelling
I'm pretty sure that if not for him, we might still be stuck with Deus Ex Machina -
@zennx Blame scriptwriters. Reality shows became a thing because they went on strike and tv companies realized they didn't need them, as they could just air reality shows.
-
@rarity Statement's like this feel awfully reductive of his wider body of work, and in my opinion don't take into consideration the diversity of his written bibliography.
-
@narwhal "Hey Romeo you're a HOMO"
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@narwhal He's definitely a legend but you can't deny the crudeness. Maybe it just seems simple due to the impact his work had on the English language though
-
@rarity I mean sure, there's no denying that there's comedic relief in his works, but I feel like proposing that said relief is the focus, cause of success, or centre of critical attention regarding his works misses the point entirely.
-
@narwhal It's certainly the reason the floors of the Globe were always packed.
-
@mrmattimation we'll agree to disagree here, okay?
