Yesterday I was talking IRL of how it's important to recognize the shortcomings of each own's (is that the proper way to say it? never had to say this in english) genetics rather than disregard them for the sake of "anti racism", and I'm pretty sure mine are low tolerance to sun exposition, high temperatures, and the fact that I consume about two or three times the food an average person does when eating normally (and I consume that energy, otherwise I'd be really fat)

@nerthos In that context I'd say "our own" or "one's own"

In relation to your question... it doesn't sound right. It would probably be better to simply re-word it. I don't hear "each own's". Maybe it would be better to say, "it's important to recognise genetic shortcomings rather..." Skip out on defining whose shortcomings it is... generalise it and we will understand.
Also, I agree... it is better to acknowledge our shortcomings so that we can deal with them. Skin colour has its benefits and problems, whatever the colour.-
@sim The topic was raised IRL because I read about one of the guys who got a nobel prize for figuring out human DNA being socially cricified for saying (paraphrasing as I don't remember the exact words) "There's no reason to assume that human populations that evolved in geographically separated areas have to be intelectually identical" which is reasonable, and it makes no sense to try and discredit one of the foremost experts on genetics simply because that statement is not PC.
This is further reinforced by that study linked earlier about how children in different regions started reacting to mirror reflections recognizing the reflection as themselves at different ages.Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:03:19 UTC from web-

@maiyannah AFAIK he sold it.

@nerthos
That does sound reasonable to me. But I can see why some people would jump to conclusions about what he is implying because that is their own bias. What they read into what he is saying, and what their fears are. The moment you talk about intelligence, people jump to the conclusion that you are talking about one being superior to the other. I could see his science field being a hazard. I don't think we should be virtue signalling about PC to begin with.-
@sim It's funny because it has been proven long ago that intelligence is not a thing that can be measured quantitatively, rather being divided into sub areas that deal with specific situations like social intellect, logic intellect, and so on. But the ones complaining about this are probably unaware of even that. The reasonable thing is that different populations would evolve the areas of intellect most useful to their environment further. For example in an open plain being able to remember complex winding paths is useless, while in a heavily forested or uneven ground it's crucial.

@nerthos
Indeed. I doubt their understanding goes that far as well. They just hear the implication of you saying that whites are superior to black people in intelligence and switch off... or switch to virtue signalling mode, and call you names for it. As you said, it makes sense that what is most useful to us in navigating the environment will be enhanced rather than what isn't. If you don't use it, you lose it as the saying goes.-
@sim The funniest part is that at no point any specific group was mentioned, so that's their insecurity at play right there and nothing else.

@nerthos
Yeah... often the people most opposed to it exhibit prejudice and bias themselves, sometimes in opposition to ones they perceive. It's a tough pill to swallow, and you'll even see people justify doing so.

@nerthos I'm the only member of my family that tans rather than burns, and diabetes runs heavy in both sides. I've dodged that bullet so far thankfully.
-
@maiyannah I tan if I'm exposed to the sun in short periods, but end up burning if exposed too much at once. Thankfully I have really white skin tone despite this, which I think looks better.
Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:14:44 UTC from web-
@nerthos A lot of people wouldn't call me tanned, but without the sun I'm white as a ghost. My sister was a straight up albino.
-
@maiyannah Same. In summer I'm about light pine coloured, but if I take off my shirt my chest is outright pale. Classmates would be surprised by that in PE class.

@nerthos Oh yeah the tan lines on me get pretty pronounced too, its just not colour you usually associate with "having a tan." More like normal "white" skin colour when I'm tanned and pale as anything where I normally have clothes.
-
@maiyannah Yeah, I get it. Not-allergic-to-sunlight white master race.
Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:32:19 UTC from web-
@nerthos We should make a club and have tshirts. That would be white, obviously.
-
@maiyannah I'm in.
Actually why not electricity-sensitive colour with a photocell that'd become opaque with light and transluscent without hahaSunday, 12-Feb-17 22:36:13 UTC from web-
@nerthos That would be amazing
-
@maiyannah I think there are already a few fabrics like that.
Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:37:14 UTC from web-
@nerthos Ive seen a few things like that online on youtube and stuff but never at the local shops that sell fabric. I wonder how hard it is to get them
-
@maiyannah Yeah, normal stores don't carry that stuff as it's not something that sells. Probably we'd need to order it straight from the manufacturer.
Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:40:36 UTC from web-
@nerthos Im genuinely curious to see how hard this is to get. Maybe I'll poke around on Ali Baba and Banggood
-
@maiyannah Let me know what you find.
I think the idea of making clothes that'd become transluscent when not in contact with light would be hilarious. I'd sell it as "sexy" since the less light, the more it shows, going near transparent without any, but ironically nothing would ever be seen through it due to darkness.Sunday, 12-Feb-17 22:43:11 UTC from web
