  4. @metaltao Haha. I can't believe I had to scroll back at the end for that drinking cup though. My phone's screen is just a little too small to show absolute miniatur horror.

  6. @mushi Does not have to bee true though ( pun here ). Some subspecies do not even abide by that "rule". The Dutch garden variety hover-fly happens to do so. Nature is weird though. I mean you would think that Mud-Daubers would absolutely thrive in our polders and such, but no, they find our ground too clay-ey and can't survive our mildest winter. I am actually kinda thankfull for that.

  8. @mushi Oh hey, hoverflies, they like sweet flowers and heat. With most sub-species you can keep appart the females that the males because the "eyes" touch on the top of the head with the males. And their eggs look like someone put miniature styrofoam on the inside of a leaf. ... Their only defense is "looking like a wasp/bee"

  14. @critialcloudkicker @nerthos not more than half an hour later a fat guy approached "judging by the scruffmarks on this donkey you have obviously tried to carry it here. That only makes those animals lazy, and lazy service animals are the last thing that I'd EVER buy". The miller and his son then looked at eachother for a few seconds and decided then and there. ... 1. "we're going home" 2. "nomatter what you do, there is always someone there saying to you that you're doing it wrong" and 3. "the next time I think something is best the way I am currently doing it, I am going to keep doing just that"

Which is probably a really powerfull childrens story.

  15. @critialcloudkicker @nerthos The miller stopped for a moment and thought, well, maybe they are right, so he put his son on the donkey too. And continued the journey to the market. Once they got to the village the people started to point and stare. So the miller asked "what's with the pointing ?". "Arn't you ashamed of yourself, overburdening that poor animal ?". So the miller and his son got off of the donkey and... what now ? Eventually they decided to carry the donkey to the market. But as you can expect, many people started pointing at the odd display. And then they found a place to sell their donkey. The first potential buyer had this to say "You have overburdened the poor animal on the way over here, it looks like an absolute overworked beast of a mess"... not 5 minutes later someone else had a different opinion, "You should have combed the animal to make it look more appealing, right now it looks like a mess" ( next part soon )

  16. @nerthos I just reminded myself of something. When I was a child I used to listen to this story on an LP. I probably listened to it like a hundred times. It goes like... There was a miller who thought "what do I still use my donkey for ? It's still a very capable animal but I do not have much use for it anymore, better take it to the market and see what I can get for it", so he and hit son went to the market with said donkey untill someone passed them by mumbling "bunch are idiots. What use does a donkey have except for being able to ride it ? what a bunch of donkeys", so the miller put his son on the donkey and carried on. untill "Look ! such a lazy boy. He just sits there while his poor dad is struggling to keep up what a bunch of donkeys". So they switched places and carried on. Untill "scandalous, that that father figure sits on a donkey while his poor son is strumbling behind, what a bunch of donkeys. ( next part soon )

  17. @nerthos There are LOTS of sayings/proverbs that make sense in all culture that make loads of sense in other cultures. There are exceptions though, such as "Selling while HE is present" is just confusing untill you know about the entire story of ( incredibly shortened ) a thief that managed to steal wares from people who just purchased said wares, and sold them back to the shop/marketstall owner for 50% salesprice, this way the shop/marketstall never ran out of product. This thief was as good at stealing as he was vain and as such became well known for as the best thief alive with everyone knowing what he looked like ( whoops, that is like a bad thing, right, maybe a plothole in this childrens story ). As such if you managed to sell something to anyone when people knew HE was there, you were a REALLY crafty smartypants.

  18. @nerthos Oh, yeah, corruption. I always forget to take that into account when thinking of human nature. "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely". It's not something you can really say anything about unless you are closely involved though, or you just have to blindly take the oppinion from other people, which is probably just as dangerous as corruption itself due to empowerment of individuals. And the circle is round

  19. @pennyfortheguy Sadly I must agree, the game is rigged with BIG-time money everywhere. Probably to the point where you can say that a vote for Hillary is a vote for Goldman-Sachs and not be entirely wrong. The best I can hope for now is a 'Trump V Sanders' epic finale. If for nothing else, then my amusement.

  20. @moonman I'm not... but at the same time, should I take negative advice from someone offering me advice, telling me not to trust their advice ?

Wednesday, 23-Mar-16 21:18:35 UTC from web in context
  21. @nerthos We Dutch have a saying, it translates to "the best helmsmen are shoreside", Meaning "it is really easy to criticize the work of other people when you're not the one doing any of it". Which is a very dangerous pitfall when taking on a yet established leadership position of anything. On the other hand those who have ruled for quite a while have their pattern of thinking too engrained in certain topics to be usefull/effective ( pretty sure we have a saying for that too ). In a good democracy it should be to the people to decide what course to sail.

  22. @moonman *subscribes* I really like short stories like this :), whether true or not is sort of irrelevant, but I kinda hope this one is true.

  23. @pennyfortheguy Soo, because Trump and Sanders are both pretty new ( AKA, completely new to the game or never were outstanding ) there are now people nearly praying for them to be the Democratic&Republican nominee so that in the very least "the establishment" does not "win" and actual change might come of it ? ... Well that makes way more sense now that I spelled it out... It makes sense right ?

  24. @nerthos The only reason I even mentioned Venezuela is because I was feeling nostalgic while looking at an old Risk boardgame board and misspoke. Again, my appologies.

  25. @pennyfortheguy I would extend that to "those who play the politician game too much". my "favorite" person on the debates is gone and is now backing Trump... Ugh... so yea Trump is playing the politician game too much.

Anyway, different question. What is "the establishment" in this context ?

  26. @pennyfortheguy from the eyes of the person who slammed that text on that picture. Soo, you ?

  27. @nerthos Oh, yeah, Argentina, not Venezuela... Sorry, looking at an old European Risk gameboard.

  29. @nerthos ... Pretty sure that comparing an insane orange monkey in a buisnesssuit with more money than some small countries to an insane venesuelan ogre who shares the money thing would... well... not result in many diplomatic happy endings. But hey, at least it would be comical

  30. @m14brony Buy all the guns on the black market, stash them in a house that is for sale, and then buy the house ? Then they are "found" property that happened to go under the guise of "yea it came with the house when I bought it"
