@m14brony You're thinking WAAAY to American. Whenever a kid gets injured on a city-hall constructed playground ( think like, shoulder>arm socket depopping ) in Europe, noone is actually thinking "hey lets sue City Hall", they are going to shout from some rooftops, probably get the national TV involved or at least local news, and city-hall will come forward assisting financially ( if that is even needed due to universal healthcare systems ) and swear to make the current playground a safer playground.
But that kid was probably doing something stupid to begin with and now there is rubber padding everywhere. Mothers freak out when someone scrapes their knee this day and age. Also, back when I was growing up it was claimed that stuff like that helped build a strong immunity to stuff. Whatever happened to that anyway ? -
@mushi ... That makes me kinda wish I was there when I was a kid... Dangit...
-
@m14brony I, ehh... well... coming from Europe I would definatly double-take if I found someone in a grocery store just openly-carrying ( still holstered in this scenario ) a M1911-springfield or something. It is not that I find guns are the problem, I just find that the police "nice vs brutal" will definatly tip towards the brutal side if guns are very easy to get, and probably they see all the time. And what politics are doing in America are actually increasing the gun-sales ( If you are in the stock market, you feel this ), increasing the amount of possible guns the police encounter. So yeah, when I see someone with a gun in its holster in an open carry state. I do not fear for anything but "oh please do not let anything happen that requires police involvement or anything because the moment they get aggitated they go shouting, and when people go shouting I get 2 possible things, a PTSD panic attack and a clusterheadache attack... The latter one making the first one even more likely"
-
@mushi ... Hardcore ! ... the "modern mom" as I know it would scold us for HOURS for even falling off the swing or something "You bruised yourself !!!"
These days all playgrounds have more padding than a rubber-factory because of that, and probably excessive whining at city hall about bruises.
I never understood what is so bad about bruises anyway. -
@m14brony Yeah, since I live in Europe and the last LAN party I went to EVERYONE was playing around with those things ( I probably have pictures of entire windows being covered by sucky-nerf-dart-thingies ) ... Kinda looking to buy one, even if they are weaksauce compared to anything I have fired before... Recommendations ?
-
@nerthos the voltage of the fan, or fans, is pretty much negatable in computer-case airflow ( and casemods ). And I have been modding quite a few of those in a previous life. I'd prefer to have 1 side covered in 5v fans, even if just run at 3v ( they can handle that, no problem ), as long as the wattage count is lower than 1 12v fan, which is pretty easy to do. ... Ofcourse I have no idea how dense you want to make your coilgun. or where any plastic parts are
-
@m14brony Yeah that is right... Say do you know anything about NERF ?
-
@m14brony Yeah that is right... Say do you know anything about NERF ?
-
@nerthos Ohh, like big aluminium heat fans ? ... They sorta are really good at keeping cool whatever they stick to, but they don't do much else
-
@nerthos nah, coil sepparation isn't THAT big of a deal when dealing with heat dissipation ( from a theoretical standpoint anyway ). But what would you recommend to keep it cool with ? like 9 CM square computer fans ? Should work to keep the mechanisms cool, but the actual plastic ?
-
@adiwan Soo... for all you know there are 32 games on the thingie but since the CPU can't adress them they fall in invalid memory ? Is that a possibility ?
-
@adiwan How did they manage to squeeze 32 games and what I assume would be a bootloader of some sort on that little thingie anyway ? when Nintendo had strict restriction on game-sizes.
-
@m14brony ... America ?
-
@nerthos Yeah. A little embedded circuitry so you can adjust the timing. That is what I'd need. I'd probably start out from scratch again too, like a breadboard with LED's.
-
@nerthos Oh, I know the fundamentalism's around coilguns. The problem is that I have no idea how to hook up the hardware, even if I do probably have all what I need.. or used to... not sure...
-
@nerthos Now that is a word I have not used in a while "magazines" ... Not even words like "tijdschriften" or "Zeitschrift" ( translations )... I guess I'll go bug the local library if I actually have spare time then. they are bound to have some, right ? ... Oh right, I would still have to learn how to read diagrams first.
-
... I wonder if there is a book "for dummies" about electrical engineering. Including but not limited to; how to read an electrical diagram, how to measure components using a multimeter, how to do the math, basic breadboard do's and don't, and some minor homework assignments.
-
@adiwan Awesome :)
-
@adiwan I had to look up an actual cardridge to see what you actually meant by some like "100% smooth"
-
@adiwan Crack it open and take pictures if you are willing to share :)
-
@nerthos Live and let live ? I am pretty sure that is they did not exist there would be a manchild in a basement somewhere thinking "I'll bet I can still dress up" ... ... ... Actually now that I think of it, that is the exact reason why I am glad it's borderline normal now, it means now there are actually some pretty ones out there that do not smell like canned soup on day 1 of a convention, and a dead dried out fishbowl on day 3.
-
@zennx Also Kunta Kinte was a ( at least part ) fictional American slave. ... Pretty sure that America and Brazil at least both tried to fill up their boats in different parts of Africa ?
-
@thelastgherkin Then they are doing exactly what they were invented for.
-
@mushi 2011 had more ponies though :)
-
@adiwan Why would you want a bootleg version of Link to the Past for the GBA ? Isn't that like buying piracy ?
-
@zennx Meanwhile because people of colour are able to wave a big flag while shouting "slavery was bad !" there are now a lot of white people walking around with the feeling they did something bad. I believe this touches something on the "regressive left" topic ? But yeah, I think it is not up to them to do anything but vote&think&move towards a solution of whatever problem a country may be facing. Noone must ever forget the monstrous things that the history books can teach us though. And sadly many people seem to be incapable to both not dwell on the past and move forward towards a better tomorrow. This especially seem true in America though. As there are not a whole lot of descendants of Brazilian slaves to fan the flames of white guilt, I think. Which kinda leaves me to wonder, why would Brazil be rumbling ? I mean I can immagine something about Dilma Rousseff, and import taxes on everything that make big companies run away, but that has nothing to do with skincolouration ?
-
@mushi Get our of there, what are you waiting for. If needed be you can live in my basement for a while. Don't worry about the various Araneus Diadematus living there... I just dislike flies more...
-
@zennx Ironically Brazil was colonised in 1500. So it's the first out those 4... It was "freed" just 1 before last out of those 4 though.
-
@zennx I wonder what'll fall first, Australia, United States of America, or India.
