I am so Potato Knishesing glad Trump supporters are so goddamn dumb. Guy attacks an FBI field office in Ohio, and his grand master plan to get through the bullet proof glass is to use… a nail gun. I mean hey, it says “bullet proof”, not “nail proof”.
Friday, 12-Aug-22 15:42:46 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Hahaha. Oh wow. The same logic can be applied to this: A bullet-proof vest is not knife-proof. Good old chain mail is https://i.redd.it/wniq0txjswg91.jpg
-
@zeldatra I'm quite fond of the supporters who rile up the internet and call for violence, and then denounce it as "no true Trump supporter" when it happens
-
@scribus nothing better than a guy calling for actual violence in the streets, then when someone goes and does it he’s like “that’s an FBI plant bro”

The best play is to have neither a real nor a fake girlfriend. More money for comics and action figures!

Federal officials are reporting that over 300 pirated copies of the Disney-Pixar film Cars 2 were found on President Trump’s personal computer. The password was “EricDonIvanka123”.

All those MTV cartoons in the late 90s/early 2000s had the right idea, animating with thick outlines is way easier than thin ones. Daria should be the gold standard.

@scribus I’m sure it’s eyeroll-inducing when I talk about how I think The Simpsons looked better before the switch to HD but this is basically exactly why. The new studio is better about it than Film Roman was but the crispness of the art drew a lot of attention to the crudeness of the character designs and made the whole product look a lot worse. The brighter colors are headache inducing. The improved readability of small movements means characters aren’t moving much at all. And now that things are going into 4K that’s all probably gonna get a lot worse. There are gonna be a thousand individually animated objects in a single frame just to prove it can be done. It’s gonna be visual overstimulation like you wouldn’t believe.
-
@zeldatra Overstimulation... That's what I sometimes feel watching anime. Some try to fill a frame with so much detail and end up distracting at best and unreadable at worst.
-
@adiwan Kind of how I felt with Bless the Harts. It's like amateur movies, where they used cheap cameras and full-focus lenses, and everything is clear but nothing clearly stands out. Sort of a soap opera effect.

It should be illegal to put two toll booths on one road a mile apart from each other http://rainbowdash.net/url/876176
Monday, 01-Aug-22 15:44:55 UTC from web-
@scribus It’s those goddamn Australians, I tell ya hwat, they bought the road and put seven million toll booths on it. These are some of the cheaper ones. There’s a variable-rate booth coming out of DC, right near where I went to community college, that has charged me anywhere from just a dollar to $10 depending on the time and day.
-
@zeldatra ffffuuuuuuuu hhhoowwww do they a) justify, and b) expect people to pay that N-times per day!?! Ours are just toll lanes, which can go up to 15.85+ afaik for maybe 1/3 or 1/5 of the entire trip
-
@scribus I’ve never been a single issue voter but I got real close in 2021 when a Republican (“independent” but only because the word “Republican” is a four-letter word in my district) candidate for local office promised to introduce legislation regulating the amount and cost of toll booths on the greenway, if the rest of his platform wasn’t so cartoonishly evil I might’ve been willing to cross over just for that.
-
-
Big fan of the conspiracy theory that Democrats are only pushing for popular, bipartisan legislation because they know Republicans will reflexively vote against it and make themselves look bad, and that actually they’re the ones who are against it.
Sunday, 31-Jul-22 19:13:37 UTC from web-
@zeldatra If the R's are so r'd that they will knowingly and willfully vote against their own self-interest, and even their own wants and desires, how tf could anyone work with that at all? I mean I know already but jfc man it is really tiring being neck-deep in hell and watching bubble-headed news anchors whine about how thousands dead in an historic heat wave isn't "fun" enough and asking what is wrong with *meteorologists* these days.
-
@scribus I dunno what’s more embarrassing: Believing Democrats have concocted an evil scheme to make everyone’s lives worse by using reverse psychology to get Republicans voting against things Republicans want, or watching Republicans fall for the reverse psychology mind games and still deciding to vote for them.

re:that last bullet, i think the push for inclusivity is broadly good because it's a life simulator and i think the more inclusive games like this are, the better, but it seems like they use inclusivity as an all-encompassing shield to stymy criticism when their updates come out half-baked and even broken. this most recent update breaks the aging system beyond repair, removes most whims in exchange for wants and fears that cover exclusively the base game and the latest expansion pack, and somehow bungled relationship checks so now my sims wanna papaya their brothers. but hey, they've added a sexuality system that probably should've been in there seven years ago eight years after release, so all is forgiven, we can move on to The Sims 4: Need for Speed, which finally adds (a) car (which cannot be used outside of its specialized map)
Saturday, 30-Jul-22 03:32:31 UTC from web-
@scribus I wouldn’t, at least not until they do at least a couple of bug fixes. Sims are currently aging up at random AT BEST, and at worst just straight up dying. It only affects long and short lifespans, and it’s actually an issue that has apparently existed for a few patches now, although I never encountered it before this one and the issue has verifiably been exasperated by something they did to the backend to support new features added by the High School expansion pack. And that’s just ONE of the problems… a lot of the new features are straight up broken and the new wants & fears system is actually less in-depth than the previous whims system, which it replaces, so… I don’t see many reasons to update ATM.
-
@scribus the update DOES add sexual orientation and it’s surprisingly in-depth (albeit it is currently very gender binary), but that too is broken and is resulting in Sims rolling incestuous wants because the orientation check happens after the relationship check.
-
@zeldatra Wow, used to need mods and plugins to bang your own mom, talk about updates

I’ve been transferred to a new store closer to DC for my new promotion starting on Sunday and I gotta say: now that I have to deal with the traffic repercussions, I firmly believe that all construction on the metro line should immediately be halted as not having to stop for construction workers would shave ten minutes off my drive easily.
Friday, 29-Jul-22 17:11:24 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Promotion! Yeah! Hopefully construction won't take forever. When I had to commute about 30km to work I had often construction work on the Autobahn, which made the traffic so bad at rush hour that it added 30 to 45 minutes to the commute and forced me to start work at 6 AM to get around all of this. Even then the construction added 10 minutes to a 15 minute drive (under good circumstances and at about 140km/h and traffic signals.)
-
@adiwan I’m hoping they’ll be done soon but also they’ve been working on this metro expansion since I was 12 so I’m starting to think it’s a mob front and they’ll never be done.
-
@zeldatra Ooof. That's criminal indeed.

Clone Wars somewhat redeems the prequels. The films are still very clunky and don't stand very well on their own but Clone Wars gives the films a little bit more dimension. Also with a lot of time passed between now and their releases it makes the outrage seem silly. As if Star Wars had excellent writing in the first place. It was always corny and clunky. The original trilogy came out at a time where those things were overlooked pretty easily as the overall quality standard of films was generally quite low in comparison to today. Nostalgia goggles twist the perception of the original trilogy films into something better it is not. Star Wars is a homage to old adventure serials that were quite bad and I adopted that kind of mindset and enjoy the moment. Even Rise of the Skywalker has some charm, harder to swallow but entertaining in a different way.
Monday, 25-Jul-22 17:06:34 UTC from web-
@adiwan I've been saying for a while now, after seeing the retrospective praise the prequels get (especially Episode III), that once the next trilogy comes out and it's directed by Kevin Fiege or The Wachowskis or something like that, people are probably gonna look back at the Sequels and go "hey you know those weren't so bad actually"
-
-
The Star Wars prequels only structurally make sense if you watch them after Empire but before Jedi, think about it
Sunday, 24-Jul-22 20:34:00 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Is this like that "Machete" order to watch them in?
-
@scribus yes except skipping Phantom Menace is kinda stupid.
-
@zeldatra Yeah, I wouldn't advocate skipping it, either, but I also don't fight too hard for Phantom Menace lol. Curious about the fan-edit that combines the prequel movies together into one, too.

I just had a customer accuse me of racially profiling her (from what I can tell, purely because I checked her id on an alcohol purchase) and she said “I used to work here, so, I know how it goes”, which I can literally only interpret as “I know you’re profiling me because I used to profile people”

Big corporations use their power to suppress everything that can threaten their business. Microsoft famously adopts free and open standards and alter them such that they are dominating them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish

@zeldatra Apple loves to Stockholm-syndrome their customers. Upgrading the hardware or even repair? No way! Soldered storage? Sure! Using slightly different chips and software-locking hardware components! Of course! Installing unauthorized software on the iPhone? HELL NO. No filthy hands, hardware or software should taint it.

@adiwan "Have you used certain hardware and software ever since you bought the machine? Well, not anymore! Every update takes power from you! It's not a bug, it's a fee-chur!"

My D&D group adopted a Xorn, a gem-eating monster, and named it Ruby. We bought some Xorns to smuggle them to a mine in order to sell them there but we kept one, as my character was good enough in animal handling that it got tamed.

@zeldatra Why does YouTube have two (or more, I've just found 2) ways to link the tv app and the mobile app, one numeric and the other alphabetic. No idea why there's not just one way, they couldn't pick one?

@zeldatra I heard the BBC passed because the songs he tried out just didn't fit with their vision of the Doctor. I guess acoustic-guitar-backed manchild moans about "timey-wimey" just appeal to a very select audience.
