so last night, my computer screen just went black. it didn't shut down or anything, it just went black. I was pretty tired, so I figured that maybe if I shut my laptop, and open it again, it will be fixed. Well, I shut it and went to bed, figuring I'll deal with it in the morning. but when I got up and opened it, the inside was really hot (also, the fan was going louder than normal all night. it was nice white noise). oh, and the black wasn't fixed. So I shut down the computer, go take a shower, come back, and it was still a bit warm. odd. !techponies

@flaxx Someone made a commit to a code change that resulted in a very important directory being deleted for those that made use of. Hilarity then ensued (as is always the way). As a bonus, the comments do feature at least ONE pony related image.

my dad's graduation gift to me is a $1500 laptop that I get to trick out as much as possible. I want it for a gaming laptop. the problem is, I no nothing about computer hardware. any suggestions? (oh, and it has to be a Dell) !techponies

@nightwillow What I like: C (and not C++!), linked with Boehm's garbage collector, and do-it-yourself objects. I also like void *.

@nightwillow first pass, specs are pretty badass. nothing final yet, but what we have now is actually better than my dad's, which can run Starcraft 2 with all the sliders cranked up at ~70 fps!

Coding an RP text game system sorta thing and trying to decide between a more standard class system, or one based around more unique, powerful, anime-ish characters. Hrm. I'm also thinking about a steampunk-tinged theme.

@binary I think they're kind of pointless because of !techponies . Someone was talking about how they should be separate because they're slightly more focused, but until people start actually sourcing groups that much I don't see a reason to do that.

@haganbmj I always find myself torn between the crazy-tiny motherboards and the ones with like 6 slots for RAM. :p I don't have the money to spend ATM, or room for another computer, so I didn't look too closely, but that urge flares up whenever I get near those bits and pieces.

@administrator :: wut.jpg :: HTML tells a user agent what the data is - CSS tells a browser what it looks like. Ergo, you can't really separate the two unless you want everything black and white and in size 12 Times New Roman =3 :: Instead of <center></center> - use the following: <div style="margin:0px auto;"></div> ^_^

@starshine My ex did say that I look at computers like other guys look at hot rods. Which I thought was a little unfair because I like old cars, too.

@scribus for a couple years I really wanted to get a BeBox. I sort of gave up on the idea when I realized that they had all the computing power of a rock compared to anything modern. (I still think it would be neat to do a BeBox case mod, but that's beyond my skills)

@starshine I want to do a "case mod" that's more like a full-desk terminal where everything is embedded into the desk surface, like an old sci-fi machine. If that makes any sense, I have a vivid picture in my head, but I can't find a good example online.

@worr @administrator Thanks for the help. :) I've already got Apache running, and I can connect from within the network. It looks like my ISP, modem, or router has blocked Port 80, though. I'm pretty sure I set up the router to redirect to the server, I'm leaning towards it being an ISP issue (even as I hopehopehope it's not). I reckon I'll get it in time. I always seem to.
