one of the main characters in Swole Foods is a “Californian” (he lived there for six years and has made it his entire identity) but I’ve never lived in California, I only know what I see on the news, so some of these jokes might seem inaccurate to people who actually live there, which I think is pretty fair considering Hollywood directors seem to think Virginia is still a part of the confederacy.

@zeldatra I can consultate!
-
@scribus Maybe! Wouldn’t feel right about it until I could pay you tho, so let’s see if I can get this thing picked up or funded first. Flying to Atlanta next year for the first of what is presumably going to be many, many pitches.
-
@zeldatra Good luck on the pitch(es)! As I understand they're super easy, barely an inconvenience. And I appreciate the monetary morals, but if you just need a punchline checked or something then I do the same for my writing group no problemo

If me not wearing a mask increases the likelihood of someone who choose not to get vaccinated to get COVID, I see that as a good thing. I'm sorry for the immunocompromised who get caught in the crossfire.

i put "Jon Lovitz" in the cast list so here's the plot for the darker and edgier Krusty the Clown spinoff that I just made up right now: Krusty's show is taken off the air and in an attempt to revitalize his career, he hires a new publicist, who happens to be none other than Artie Ziff. Meanwhile, due to good behavior, Sideshow Bob is paroled, and Krusty reluctantly lets him live in his mansion because he has nowhere else to go.
Also, Milhouse's parents adopted him out, so he's there too.Tuesday, 27-Jul-21 05:38:17 UTC from web -
now they're showing something i remember, but apparently these days this show is heavily edited to remove "offensive jokes" (jokes about gluten-free diets)
Wednesday, 14-Jul-21 05:02:26 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I wonder the policy on a gluten-free dump?
-
@scribus i dunno but personally i think making fun of gluten allergies is much, much lower on the list of things i'd object to than, say, paying a random generic black guy to pretend to be Barack Obama, which disney channel also loved doing at the time.

So I’ve got kind of a conundrum, I think I may have done something a little inappropriate. After I got transferred out of my store, I left my discord & such for some of the employees who were around my age in case they ever wanted to chat since I wasn’t going to be working it’s any of them anymore and I thought some of them were pretty cool. One of them was about 19, he’s a lot of fun to talk to but I was a bit iffy because he’s just out of high school. I know there’s nothing inherently weird about that given that I’m a pretty young guy, but he was still one of my employees for a long time, he started working here when he was sixteen. Now he wants me to hang out with him and his friends sometime, which, again, not inherently weird, but they’re all fresh out of high school too. I’m starting to feel like a little bit of a creep now, because I am getting invited to outings with all of these people who just graduated a year ago. Am I over thinking this, or did I screw up?
Saturday, 26-Jun-21 00:38:47 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Eh, some "border crossing" is kind of inevitable around that point, just don't buy them booze or smokes and it should be fine (unless they're dweebs)
-
@scribus Yeah I didn’t even buy beer for my friends in college after I turned 21 as like a purely moral thing, don’t plan to do it here either

she complains about me to corporate anyway because she has an authority problem. I’m not an asshole, or I try not to be. But you gotta do your job right or other store can’t function. She can’t handle any amount of coaching. It’s obnoxious how many times I’ve heard from my bosses in Maryland over bogus complaints she’s filed. One time she got a nail in her tire and she told the police that I slashed her tires.

@scribus She’s also a very loud… Biden supporter. It’s very weird.
-
@zeldatra Some people. . . .
-
@scribus We live in a liberal area compared to the rest of Virginia outside of Richmond and Newport News, but like, that’s like saying Georgia is liberal compared to the rest of the Deep South if you know what I mean. So she talks about how she voted foe Biden to customers then gets upset with me when they yell at her. I tell her to stop talking politics at work then, and tells me she has a right to free speech. And I tell her “yes you do, but so do they” and she just… can’t grasp that. Then she complains to corporate because I “discriminated” against her over her politics. She’s genuinely incomprehensible.

@scribus i don’t work at this store anymore, I just fill in on the weekends because my replacement “fell” (I think she took a dive because when I worked with her she was always annoyed at having to do any work that I would normally do - now she’s always doing it) so I’ve been thinking about really gaying it up because of how many homophobes I apparently used to work with. Would like to see how they react to their “cool” manager being, like, a bigass gayzilla.

So my state is a week away from TOTAL REOPENING (except where it stays restricted) and non-vaccinated people are supposed to still wear a mask indoors so . . . 90% is 100 now, yay for New Math!!
Thursday, 10-Jun-21 01:06:49 UTC from web-
@scribus I was incredibly worried about this when Virginia re-opened, and granted I don't know what vaccination statistics are like over there, but over here despite my worries we're only seeing, like, five new cases a day in Fairfax County, which is the most populous county in the state, so I'm a lot less worried now than I was at the time
-
@zeldatra I'm more amused that it's a "total" reopening (with asterisks) than worried in any way

Not that I’m emulating a Wii U game or anything, but Wii U emulation is such a pain in the ass I might just fork the money over for a refurbished console.
Wednesday, 02-Jun-21 20:38:53 UTC from web-
@zeldatra And what game would you fork over refurbished console money for? Wii U is a huge blind spot in my Nintento know. My Nintendknow.
-
@scribus Nothing, now that I’ve (hypothetically) gotten the emulator working (in Minecraft), but basically I wanna start streaming some older console games like Zelda and such and I was trying to get the most convenient setup going. A Wii U can play Nintendo’s entire library excluding the GameCube and Switch, so it seems like the most convenient option.
-
@zeldatra Yeah, that is pretty potent

I know I've said before that Final Fantasy is the only time that 6 > 7, but I think that The Sims is having a similar run with 3 > 4 !vgp
Monday, 31-May-21 22:00:57 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Even after all of the updates and finally putting pools into the base game, I just cannot stand Sims 4. They're too dumb, and they're too bad at listening to the User. The multitasking is cool, and they don't clutter at stairs and doorways as badly as 3, but really.... That's about it, gameplay-wise, for me. Otherwise it's like they traded one graphical step forward for two or three game steps back. I hire a babysitter, I go to the bar with my wife, I come home at 3 AM and the toddler is unfed in the backyard playing around in a dirty diaper and that was about when I decided the game was literally unfinished and in Cimmeria, by Crom, pushing unfinished software to market would cost one's HEAD!! lol
-
@scribus I should probably mention that The Sims 2 runs on a pretty much identical game engine to The Sims 3, with the big differences being that create-a-sim is more detailed in 3 and, of course, the interconnected neighborhood with no load screens. If you’re used to 3’s clutter it’s PROBABLY the better game, I’m just not.
-
@zeldatra I am accustomed enough to not see it as clutter... lol

I’m one of those psychopaths who played Red Dead Redemption 2 at 30fps because I wanted to play on the highest settings.
Sunday, 30-May-21 22:37:02 UTC from web-
@zeldatra As long as it's over 24, man. I'm starting to get over it, but the ultra-high framerate thing puts me off. I've started seeing good uses of it, like sports, but I can pretty well usually do without.
-
@scribus I think it really varies on what kind of game it is too. Shooters you obviously need the fluidity a higher frame rate can offer, but more cinematic, story-driven games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Uncharted 4 or The Last Of Us or really anything that was on the PS4 in the last five or so years, I don’t really care if my rate is a little lower if that’s the trade off for getting the most crisp, detailed-looking image. But of course, I dedicated my life to studying a craft that involves working in 12 FPS environments, so maybe I’m a little biased.
-
-
Well my monitor literally can only update its display 60 times in one second, but I guess I appreciate my video card pulling like 550% duty? O_O wonderful throttling settings to have finally discovered after like a year
Sunday, 30-May-21 20:32:58 UTC from web-
@scribus for reasons that I think should be somewhat obvious, I’ve always preferred visual fidelity to higher frame rates, so while I’m currently invested in 4K rendering, I’ve never in my life owned a monitor that could exceed 60fps, which works out to be a pretty good deal because I end up spending less money on everything from monitors to graphics hardware.

the cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid is played by the same guy who played the Grim Reaper in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, which is just a little goofy if you ask me.
Wednesday, 26-May-21 07:17:29 UTC from web-
@scribus He does not, but that actor, Greg Eagles, ALSO voices the DARPA Chief in that same game, and another character in the sequel, and both of them basically sound like what I imagine Grim would sound like without the accent.

@zeldatra That's kinda funny
-
@zeldatra That's wacky. Now I can't unhear it, 'mon

Well, buried my great-uncle today (he married Grandpa's sister). Learned some fun numbers during the eulogy, like him being 1 of 7 children (who survived, out of 16), or the realization that at 68 years+ together, their marriage was legally old enough to retire.
Wednesday, 26-May-21 04:39:07 UTC from web-
@scribus only tangentially related, but i have a batcave-load of both biological and marriage-related family that i've never met for various reasons. On the biological side, my grandmother was adopted out of a family of mostly prostitutes and drug dealers. On the marital side, my mother's half-sister's father is (was, he might be dead) apparently a high-ranking member of the Puerto Rican Mafia up in New York, powerful enough that he had my grandmother and my grandfather arrested on trumped-up kidnapping charges when she left him.

annoyingly, for Swole Foods I have to design a new police car 3D model from scratch instead of using the one I've already got for The Twin Souls, for geographic accuracy. Over in Denver, they use (or at least did, in 2016) Crown Victorias and mountain-ready SUVs, so I modeled a Crown Victoria expy. Here in Virginia, most localities use Dodge Chargers, which I will tbf have to model eventually, AND the state troopers use these weird, ugly-looking Ford Taurus-type cars, AND in Northern Virginia occasionally you'll see Capitol Police around because congressmen live here and apparently that means that they have jurisdiction here??? Those guys use Crown Vics. So I can at least just texture-swap that. But I'm gonna have to model the other two from scratch.

Loss prevention's rules of engagement were that as soon as they're out the door, you can't even chase them, so even though there was a big ol' horn calling attention to you, they didn't even get time to see you.
Thursday, 20-May-21 19:12:25 UTC from web-
@scribus Our most frequent shoplifters are teenagers grabbing White Claw and just walking out with them, but they’re really, really bad at it. They seem to think I’m literally going to hunt them down, so if they even think I know they’re stealing that drop their papaya and leave. Just the other night a kid was walking toward the exit with a case in hand and I wasn’t really paying attention, but he thought I saw him so he pretended he was just walking over to the produce to get something. Once I realized what was going on I just kinda stood there until eventually he walked back into the aisles, hid the goods, and left without making a further issue.
-
-
they caught these two teenagers that have been going around robbing stores around town... somehow mine was the only one that didn’t get hit......... not that I had anything to do with it or anything, but let’s not ask too many questions now, alright?
Thursday, 20-May-21 08:26:55 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Does your store chain its fire exit shut to prevent shoplifting?
-
@scribus Nope, shoplifters just use the regular exits regardless. Nah, these kids were like showing up overnight, smashing the windows, and grabbing whatever cash they could before dipping (which, at my store, would have been about $900)
-
@zeldatra Oh, damn dude! That's pretty outright. I just knew a guy who's crew used to target a specific store because the liquor was right by the fire door; their solution was simpler than reorganizing the store, but otherwise problematic, lol
