@mrmattimation Companies with stuff to advertise bid on slots from google, who use their myriad tentacles to discern where the ads would best be placed, based on page content. Different companies tend to bid differently, with some paying "per impression" where simply loading the page with an ad on it generates income, and some pay per click, where you need to actually click the ad. However, this doesn't mean spam click the RDN ad, because all that will do is get me banned from adsense.
