@starshine I never got to record my band, which was a bummer, 'cause I'm an engineer, and have the gear to have made that happen. Haven't recorded any of my arranges, either. That's a big reason why I want to learn violin, I've written a bunch of things for jazz violin I'd like to hear, but I moved, and don't know any violinists here. If I could record bass, record violin, and use Ivory for the piano, it'd sound great, and could do it all myself. If you haven't heard Ivory, give it a listen; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8R9Pk9P4yI If something is played by hand on a velocity sensitive keyboard and isn't quantized, I can't tell the difference between Ivory and an acoustic piano, and I'm a frickin' engineer. Ivory sounds amazing.
-
@starshine Triplets are hard to play on the stand up bass. Fortunately when I was playing in a piano trio, I was writing all of our arranges, so I made sure I wasn't playing any.
-
I go through weird music writing phases. Earlier this year, I was into arranging things for jazz violin, then I was all about taking every song ever and arranging it for guitar driven rock. Now I'm into writing things in 3/4.

@cracky Toronto's pretty great, mostly 'cause the women there are ridiculously attractive. That's the thing I miss the most about Toronto, haha. The women there look amazing!
-
@mrbrown In the states, most people assume I'm Canadian. In Canada, most people assume I'm from the states. I guess that's what happens when you move between the countries on a regular basis.
-
@mrbrown was born in Alberta then moved to the states then moved to Toronto then moved to the states then moved to Toronto again then moved to the states. Does that count?

This is some of the best storytelling I've ever heard in a song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4YuqjsVhfo

In the states, if you don't drive a car, you're clearly regarded as insane. I have a car, but I take the bus to the gym because my cars fuel consumption is measured in gallons per mile instead of the other way around. When I walk to the bus station, there's one intersection I have to wait at, and while I'm standing there, people stare at me. I can only assume they're thinking 'Wh-...why doesn't he have a car? Does he know what they are? Is he Amish?'. I've started countering their stares by shouting really awful things, like 'STEPPING ON VAGINAS WITH CLEATS', or 'mangoesTING BLOODY DIARRHEA INTO YOUR MOTHERS cherries HOLE'. I'm not sure what purpose this serves, but I do it anyway.

@darklycute No such thing as too many ponies.
-
@darklycute Well, Ohio is an agricultural state. Soooo, maybe a horseshoe with a bundle of wheat, and a corncob crossing over in the middle?

I think I'm going to stop being an elitist jazz guy, and pick up the guitar. I get songs stuck in my head a lot, not songs that have been written, but rock arranges of songs I know, and I really want to write and record them (I work as an audio engineer, so I have the means to do that), but all I play is bass. If I picked up guitar, I could program the drums, play the bass, and play the guitar, and it'd be awesome.

@trample Dag yo, that looks pretty pimp. The shading is awesome.

@moxximusical Adding. We're going to talk about music.

Comparison between the two HD rips that are out there; http://doctormowinckel.com/pictures/mlp/720_1080_comparison.png Both screencaps taken in VLC, then saved as a PNG in GIMP. There's definitely some artifacting going on in the 1080p rip, and for my tastes, I'd rather upscale the 720p rip. Something to consider if you already have the 720p rips and were thinking snagging the 18GBs of 1080p rips.

So's Target rolled out their Canterlot line today, well, the ones that didn't break the street date rolled out their Canterlot line. I went there this morning, and caught them as they were setting up. I asked if I could have the display when they throw it out, but they said they're not allowed to give them away, boo! I bought the blanket and the DVD. The blanket's pretty awesome, though not for those of us who are of large stature, seeing as it's only 60"x50". Here's a pic of it. http://ur1.ca/4tvga

If Ponibooru opened up donations to either upgrade, or move to a server that can handle a higher volume, I would seriously thunk like $20 down for that mangoes. I'm sure there's lots of people who would do the same.

@xriffmasterx Deviant Art? Bronibooru?
-
@moxximusical Haha, damn! I'm 6'4" so when I saw the bass I was like 'Ah ha! Finally an instrument that's size appropriate!'.
-
@moxximusical That's a lot of instruments. I bought a violin but I dunno what to do with it. It's weird not having an instrument that's taller than me. I guess you're not allowed to play it pizz all the time, either.
-
@moxximusical I play stand up bass, so I'm more interested in baritone/bass anyway. I didn't have any interest in singing till earlier this year I met a bassist who would occasionally add a baritone harmony to the vocals. I saw him do that on stage and was like 'Aw, aww! I wanna do that!', and got interested in singing. Not like, be a vocalist, but do what he does, add the occasional harmony. Do you play any instruments, other than vocals?
-
@moxximusical I've always wanted to be the alto singer in an a capella bad, but my singing voice starts at about B2 and stops at G3, so that kinda puts a stop to it.
-
@haganbmj Dang, usually not a fan of serialized animations, but that looks like it has some budget behind it, I might be checking that out.

Winter Wrap Up for solo piano! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8R9Pk9P4yI It sounds pretty gewd. Ivory is awesome like that.

I have written the intro to the fic I said I was going to write an hour ago, and I actually like how it came out; http://doctormowinckel.com/boogers/octavia_ivory_trio.html The intro is just Octavia playing a song on stage, but if I stick with it, there's going to be drug running and all sorts of illicit activities! Also, !strings might be interested in it. There's a violin and stand up bass, oh my!

Hmm, I want to write some fic, all I can write is crime noir, I used to be in a piano trio as the bassist. Octavia plays stand up bass (That's a bass, look at the lower bout compared to the upper bout, that's a freakin' bass), maybe I can merge these things into a crime noir MLP fic where Octavia plays bass in a jazz band at a bar that acts as a front for importing drugs.

@rotation Amazon isn't always cheaper, I've noticed some of their pony toys going for more than they do in stores.

And AJ, obviously, she works for Sweet Apple Acres.
