  1. @adiwan Desktop Linux distros are fine but after a while but I got tired of FrankerZing with them. I'd rather use my computer to make stuff than have tinkering with it be an end unto itself, because it makes me crazy.

  2. @adiwan That's nice for you, but we were talking about a Mom. I actually have a Chromebook for my tech self though and it's serviceable. It's easy enough to tear apart if you want to, but even staying inside the framework that Google has set up gets you pretty far since it can run Linux, Android, and ChromeOS.

  3. @adiwan Off in the distance you hear a voice (probably mine) whispering "Chromebook, Chromebook"

  4. @scribus They say you should freeze them if you're not planning on having kids before you're 35, but supposedly that's a myth... idk

  5. @scribus If you can wrap your head around Docker there may be some premade images that make your life easier.

  7. @nerthos (python is bdfl) Mastodon's column layout is pretty bizarre though.

  10. @nightshadecupcakes If you wanted to make your own site like this, you might want to look at Mastodon instead. It's still supported and probably less full of security holes.

  11. @nightshadecupcakes At the bottom: "Rainbow Dash Network is a microblogging service brought to you by Cerulean Spark. It runs the StatusNet microblogging software, version 1.0.1, available under the GNU Affero General Public License."

  12. @drinkingpony I don't really even get the big problem with drag. It's loud and over the top, sure, but it doesn't have to be sexy or kinky.

  13. @drinkingpony The older I get the less hidden the weirdness gets because I stopped caring as much.

  14. @ceruleanspark I wouldn't even attempt it. Whenever I want to upgrade I just knock over my root partition and start over. That's for a desktop system though.

  15. @drinkingpony I remember when there used to be a bug in the Linux Kernel that would stop the disk too often and overload it. You had to use hdparm to reset it every time you started or woke the computer. Good times.

  16. @thismightbeauser Apparently running out of space does that to an OS. It's not Chrome's fault... *this* time... =_=

  23. @thismightbeauser I also had one connected to Derpibooru. I don't think that one was ever broken. MLFW was occassionally flaky.

  24. @drinkingpony I had a program connected to MLFW that would do a search and then post a random image from that search to Slack, which is like IRC or AIM for work. A work chat network. So you could type "mlfw surprised" and it would reply as mlfwbot with something like http://rainbowdash.net/url/874524

  25. @drinkingpony Looks like it might have died at the end of 2017. I was sure the Slackbot I had connected to it worked later than that though. http://rainbowdash.net/url/874516
